Can the N7 play MKV files and avi files?
-
The stock video player can play *.avi format files, but it depends on what codec is used. I don't think that the stock player can play the mkv. There has been a strong recommendation to use MX player for watching videos and to add compatibility for most formats and codecs.
-
VPlayer, or VLC Beta should play most video files.
-
I have found that you have to change the settings in most players from hardware decoding to software decoding to play avi and mkv video files.
-
it plays them but i can't hear anything cause the movie i've just put in has a dts audio format :(

I use MX Player and it's great, can play anything I've thrown at it (I don't have cable, satellite, or netflix... so I throw a lot of video files at it...)
Just grab some custom codecs for DTS:

Just out of curiosity , what don't you like about BSPlayer?

I am using bsplayer and mxpro. Bsplayer is much smoother when you play high res vids while mxplayer displays them much clearer imo.

Can the N7 play MKV files and avi files?
Accoring to my 3+ month's using experience on my N7, the MKV files cannot be supported natively, and .avi files mainly denpend on the codecs contained, like the divx is not the compatible codec for N7. At the begining, I tried the MX player, but sometimes, the MKV files still can't be played well, like no audio just pictures. I googled the solution and find a relevent post shows us the solution to play mkv, avi, flv, and some other files on Nexus 7 without any issues. I've tried and made it.
