Hello everyone, recently purchased a Nexus 7 but I have to virtually sit in front of the Wi-fi Router to get a connection, other devices work from around the house. I wrote to the supplier ( through Amazon) who asked " DO other devices work well ?" and suggested I reset the device by holding the the power button down for 15 seconds. I am not tech savvy so I would welcome any thoughts on the subject, thanks in advance.

Welcome! I think Birdastro had a problem like this. I will look for the thread at how he remedied it. The antenna is inside attached to the back.

Resetting the device takes more than holding the power down. that just reboots the device. This sounds like hardware not software.
Here is a link to show how to reset. It is worth a shot before digging into hardware or returning the unit. You will lose any data so back up what you can. Text documents , pictures or things that are not stored in the cloud.

I would suggest you initially test your Nexus 7 at another location. If the connectivity issue continues at the different location, you have at least verified that the problem originates from your Nexus 7 regardless of it being an OS or a hardware issue.

tried factory reset, no joy. Tried with another location, no joy. The seller suggested I return the device as my return period would soon be up, so that's what I've done. Must have got a dud un. Thanks for the posts, I'm a bit reluctant to get another Nexus 7 so might go for a Kindle Fire. Cheers.

I would hope that you stay with the Nexus 7, as there are some defective units with any device, but that is your choice, ultimately. Remember though that with the Kindle you are married to Amazon for your content and applications. Besides, you have seen that your Nexus 7 Forum is responsive and helpful.
