Title: anti-theft
Post by: nhobbit on September 16, 2012, 02:39:33 PM
On the news, this lady had her i-pad stolen and she was able to log on to her iCloud account and see where it was.  The N7 has GPS so is there an equivalent feature with google?

I use the lookout security app. There is a free version that will do what you want. It also scans all your apps for any malware and has a "scream" feature so you can find it by sound. (Helps if you loose your device in your house or something). The premium version has a option to wipe our data or lock your device if its stolen. There are probably a few features I left out but I would definitely recommend it.

There's an app called "Cerberus Anti Theft" that might do the trick.

It has three ways to protect your device:
- Remote control through the website www.cerberusapp.com (http://www.cerberusapp.com)
- Remote control via text messages
- SIM Checker (for devices that have a SIM card): you will automatically receive alerts if someone uses your phone with an unauthorized SIM card

Remote control allows you to perform many operations on your device, like:
- Locate and track it
- Start a loud alarm, even if the device is set to silent mode
- Wipe the internal memory and the SD card
- Hide Cerberus from the app drawer
- Lock the device with a code
- Record audio from the microphone
- Get a list of last calls sent and received
- Get information about network and operator the device is connected to
- And much more!

List taken from link below.

You should definitely check the video posted on that link. I also heard that if they turn off the gps or wifi, with Cerberus you can turn it back on and even
enable the video recording from the front or back to let you know who's been playing around with it.

P.S. I'm not sure if this will work with Nexus 7 but might as well let other people know about this awesome app.

I use lookout.  Great features for a free app!

Overkill.  Kind of like an app that uses to much memory or storage.  :D

So, I don't guess that I should post a picture of my shot pattern from 50 yards showing 10 rounds in a 5" circle. 8)

I just received a software update for lookout security. They added an optional feature called "signal flare."  It automatically saves the last known location of your device before it runs out of battery life. That could be quite useful for a lost device.
