Title: Powering up my nexus 7
Post by: stever717 on September 18, 2012, 11:03:36 PM
Just wondering if it normal to have to hold the power button for 15-20 seconds before it starts to turn on. Other than that I am having no problems with it. Just wondering. Thanks

It should only take a couple seconds and let go when first starting the tablet from being off. If it is sleeping then sometimes you have to hold the button down for an extended period of time.

This is a similar post as one in the new members area.  I had the same problem.  I read on the internet that, if it doesn't come up like it should, then hold the power button for up to 30 seconds.  I am a newby to this forum and pads, but have over 35 years experience as an electronics tech.  This problem didn't sit well with me, so I contacted Google tech folks.

They described this as a problem.  They would have replaced it had I bought it from them.  I bought mine from Game Stop (the only place in town that had the 16GB!) and they replaced it hassle-free.  My advice is to have it replaced.

Similar trouble. Brand new, straight out of the box. Charged overnight (~6 hours) Will not at all power on. After examining, it doesn’t even appear to be taking a charge. (No charging led, no charging screen animation or anything), completely dead. Holding power button forever or trying hard reset didn’t work..   :'( Seeing LOTS of posts all around the interwebz with similar troubles. Ordered direct from Google. Trying today to contact.

@ adam513

Connect the Nexus 7 to a USB port on your computer or use a phone charger if you have one and let the device charge for about 30 minutes, then try to power it on. It is a long shot and it will charge really slow, but I have read of it working, also you could identify that your Nexus 7 came with a bad charger. Keep us posted.
