Similar problem as Merino's. My Nexus suddenly turns off and/or screen suddenly blacks out, regardless of what im doing. During log in, it blacks out again. I have to push the power button and retry log in before it  finally works again. My Nexus is 2 weeks old. Would appreciate help. Thanks.

You might try: Settings > Display > Sleep.  Maybe if you change those settings....

You can also use KeepScreen from the Play Store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tni.KeepScreenLite (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tni.KeepScreenLite)
You can select the apps on which the screen timeout is overridden.

Another thing you can do is to try a factory reset.  I haven't had it happen to my N7, however, my Galaxy Nexus is another story...

I tried the maximum Sleep setting of 30 mins. No effect. It just turns off suddenly after about 10 mins of use. Then i have to push the power key so the passcode screen will appear. I have to try this 3 or 4 times before it goes live again.

I plan to try the factory reset. Will this erase the built in applications?

Yes a factory data reset will wipe the device of all user data including applications, email accounts, contacts & calendar events that are not synced etc.
Your N7 will be as it was when purchased.

wild stab in the dark here - but worth checking.

Are you using one of the protective covers that lock the Nexus when you close them (not sure how they do it, but mine feels magnetic).  Well mine now sometimes causes the screen to lock if it is folded round the back (didn't do this before) which isn't as intended.

Hi Silvercue,

  I think you got it.

After reading your post, i closed my Nexus cover, and lo..it does automatically blanks out and returns when i open it.  i am using it right now for 30mins, with cover unfolded, with no black out.

I wonder why, considering my cover is all leather, with hard plastic as backing.

I am already thinking of resetting it. Anyway, Will observe for the next few days.

I'm really happy. Thank you very much.
