If you are apprehensive about typing in Fastboot and ADB commands, m.sabra is developing a one click root tool at XDA Developers. The developer already has one click tools for the nexus s and galaxy nexus and bases this tool on the same code used for those. Once the Nexus 7 begins shipping the tool will be finalized and the procedure will be as easy as downloading the tool, installing the drivers, clicking on root.exe, and following the prompts. This is the link to the One Click Toolkit (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1742919) at XDA Developers. Look for a guide here once the tool is finished.

I read thru all 22 pages and I am still freaked out about trying. My computer locks up or reboots sometimes. What happens if in the middle the computer reboots?
-
Worst case scenario, you would have to reload the factory image.

I have done it and it works perfectly. Before I selected the One Click Root I made sure to install all the proper drivers and then selected Option 2 Backup and followed the step by step prompts after which I let the One Click Root Option do its thing.

Congratulations and welcome to the world of root. :)
