Would like to disable the mag switch facility as I carry the N7 in a motorcycle tank bag which id held in place on the tank with.... magnets. Anyone any ideas? Prefer a method of reinstating it when removed from the bike as I use a 3rd party cover which uses it. The N7 is running app for logging ecu so it switching off is a PITA.
Apols if this is in the wrong part of forum - newbie here.

If you're a software wizard, find the source code & recompile it. Maybe sometime has a custom ROM that ignores the magnetic switch. Otherwise, a physical solution seems to be easier.
-
Thx - sounds like "physical solution" meantime then.
-
Maybe bungee cord a net to hold your N7 on your gas tank.
-
Totally lost.
-
In what respect? Location or conceptually? :D
The issue is to prevent the magnetically activated switch embedded in the N7 operating. Not being a coding expert it will be a physical method.
An apk I use requires constant N7 comms with my motorcycle ecu by BT to log motor and exhaust gas parameters whilst running. This allows diagnosis and modification to the ecu map for performance and efficiency optimisation. The N7 would be most elegantly held in a weather proof map case held onto the metal tank with magnets encased in the map case, however they are strong enough to activate the N7 - thereby N7 quits.
I wondered if there was a simple hack to deactivate this N7 function.

If anyone makes any progress on this, please post it. I have magnetic finger implants.. It would be nice if I had control of the switches!

Well I just find this thing to be just useless sorry but all these case with auto wake just make ppl even more lazy than they already are

OK, guilty as charged... I'm lazy. But I sure love how easy it is to just close the flap on my case when I'm done and set it aside, or if my tab is sittin' on the table asleep, all I do is open the cover like I would a book. A very cool feature in my book!

The sensor is located on the back about 1/2 inch in from pogo connection. Weak magnets like refrigerator or sign stock do not affect it. Try to situate the tablet so the sensor is further away from
the tank hold downs or add padding to decrease magnetic field proximity.
I've never heard of magnetic finger implants, you could find a needle in a haystack?
I guess a dock could be made with a snooze button to turn off tablet with electromagnet.
Wake on Skype call from glaring boss, tape over camera.

I think that's a little harsh accusing people of being lazy, it's a convenience and nothing more.
Personally I don't like the feature and wouldn't use it but I can understand why some would and I don't think it makes them lazy!
Just my 2 pence...

Sorry it's just hard to find a nice case that doesn't have this option if I could I would just disable it on my N7 now that I have it rooted
-
I'm not sure it's possible to disable the feature, I would assume it's kernel related as the kernel is the part of the software that communicates directly with the hardware.
