Give it a couple of days and the bubbles usually disappear.

I got the Ionic one (3-pack) based on reviews, no bubbles and happy with it, it's been on a few weeks. Hard to tell it's even on there. No affiliation.

I took my N7 to a kiosk at the local mall and had a Ghost Armor screen protector installed.  It cost me $30 but I consider it money well spent.  They are "experts" at installing screen protectors, clean the screen well, install it without bubbles, position it correctly, etc...  If I ever have an issue with the screen protector I just go back there and pay $5 for them to install a new one.  I've done this with all my phones and tablets and have been very happy.  I tried putting screen protectors on in the past and always had trouble with getting them positioned, getting the air bubbles out or getting some dust particle or whatever trapped underneath.

I've never put on a screen protector until I got the N7. Bought an XO Skin. Worked like a charm -- easy to line up, easy to smooth out, etc. because you are actually working with a damp screen. But, you actually have to wait the full 24+ hours and then all the micro bubbles just miraculously disappear. The skin gets fingerprinted, to be sure, but I just do a couple sprays of an eyeglass cleaner on a towel and then use the towel to clean off the skin.

+1 on the 'wet screen' application.  Mine is the Skinomi http://www.amazon.com/Skinomi-TechSkin-Protector-Lifetime-Warranty/dp/B008FQ5JNO/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1350065346&sr=1-1-catcorr&keywords=skinomi+for+google+nexus+7 (http://www.amazon.com/Skinomi-TechSkin-Protector-Lifetime-Warranty/dp/B008FQ5JNO/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1350065346&sr=1-1-catcorr&keywords=skinomi+for+google+nexus+7) I bought on Amazon. Worked very well for me... and many others!

Did the same thing, and I've found Ghost Armor to be the best option I've found yet, people can't tell I have a screen protector on, amazing product, and I've had the other high end screen protectors.

Bubbles can be avoided with patience.  Before installing your screen protector, make sure the screen is clean.  Peel about an inch of the backing and line up the screen protector.  Using a credit card, slowly scrape the protector as you peel the backing.

The trick is to go slow and keep scraping.  Don't give air bubbles a chance to form.

You'll get better every time you install a new screen protector.

Do you really need a screen protector? I don't have one and my screen looks just great.

What happens if you don'y have one?

Always had bubbles in the past.

Used the credit card method above and it has worked perfectly. Thanks for that.

Easy! Use some sticky tape before hand on the screen to get rid of the dust.

There's normally two types of bubbles

air bubbles -> push them to the sides of the screens as you slowly apply the screen protector
dust/lint bubbles -> make sure your screen is perfectly clean before installing

You just have to be really careful. I can normal install a really "clean" protector about 50% of the time, so I always order 2 screen protectors.

And I use them not only for the protection but because I like matte ones for the less reflection/glare I get off the screen and also for minimizing finger prints and smears.

That's a question with a different answer for everyone.  Do you really need to use a seat belt?  Do you really need medical insurance?  Should you install anti-virus?

With the advances in screen glasses, there is a lot less chance of getting scratches.  If you are like me, my electronic gadget are usually in one of my pockets and I'm eventually going to rub it with a key, coin or pen.  I'm also pretty good at dropping things which is why I use cases.

Bottom line is you don't really need one, but some day you might wish you had one.

I usually get my screen protectors off ebay.  I order at least two at a time in case I screw one up.  For a buck or two a piece its no hassle to get some more if I get some crappy quality.
