Title: My N7 is locked up
Post by: dominic on October 14, 2012, 06:24:05 PM
Hi Guys
I tried to update my N7 manually ( before the guide came out) by  putting the UPDATE.ZIP on the N7 (sd) it took the manual update but it can not reboot normally
It stucks at he symbol X forever.
I tried to power on and off a few times but it still stuck.
Since it did not boot up, the PC does not recognize the N7 for me to use the Nexus Tool Kit to restore the factory default
Any idea I can recover this so my N7 does not become a paper weight ?
the N7 is unlocked and rooted
Thanks

First you need to try to get your device into recovery mode through the bootloader. When powering on the device, hold the volume down button. You may need to plug your device into USB in order to accomplish this. From here you will need to restore a backup or complete a fresh install of a ROM of your choice.

Can't you use the toolbox and Flash the original rom?

I can not see the tool box but following loociddreemr's suggestion I power up , push down the Vol. button and it gives me 2 choices:
1. Restart bootloader which I did and the N7 stcuks at the X symbol as before
2. Recovery Mode which I tried and it shows a picture of an android with a RED Trangle with an exclamation mark (!)on it
I am willing to try anything at this stage
Thanks for your quick replies

WUGFRESH Root toolbox.
Install drivers on your PC and follow the instructions.
If there is a better possible way I am sure there will be other people coming along with advice.

I think that you have flashed the stock recovery over clockworkmod. You need to get CWM back before proceeding. I'm looking into the easiest method for you.

Many Thanks to all of you who came to my rescue
I got my N7 back finally
I used Nexus Rook Toolkit version 1.5.4 where I can choose the option Flash Stock + Unroot (with can not boot up status)
With some difficulty I was able to install the driver for the N7.
After the PC recognise the N7 the recovery is automatically done by the Tool Kit
Again , many thanks to all

Glad you recovered your device, if you can be more specific in your recovery steps, I will post a guide to recovery, with full credit to you.

Good catch loociddreemr, I agree unlock, root, protect root per the guide and then run the update

I updated without protecting the root then proceed to back up , unlocked and rooted
So far so good

I wish I could be more specific in terms of using the Nexus Root Toolkit 1.5.4
On the Menu there is a box for Initial Setup for full driver installation Automatic + Manual. I click on it and follow on the on screen installation to install the drivers
Then I click on Flash Stock + Unroot (here you have the option to click either on a) cannot boot up or b) device is on.
I click on a) and the Tool Kit did the rest
