Title: camera indicator
Post by: justfred on October 18, 2012, 01:58:13 PM
Hi,

I was wondering where the indicator is telling me that the front facing camera is active or not.

I think that not being able to tell if the camera is on constitutes a (severe) privacy problem.

Also is there a way to force an interactive dialogue with the user in case an app wants to turn on the camera ?

Thanks

I don't think there is any indicator except if you have a camera app open.
Any rogue app that is going to spy on you will have the ability to. Shut off a light anyway. In my days of severe paranoia I would put a sticker in front of the camera. :-*

I would have to agree with bjs229, if anti-theft apps can take a picture of the person holding the tablet and send it to you, then a rogue app could do something similar to that, without your knowledge, so even if there was an indicator, it could turn it off. So if you are highly concerned, then as bjs229 suggested just cover the camera with a piece of tape.

Note to everyone, even if you are feeling really euphoric, do not take off your boxers and use them as a "do-rag" while using your Nexus 7.  ;D

I would argue that using bikini underwear as a do-rag is perfectly acceptable though. ;D
