Title: A Backup Guide?
Post by: radiocycle on October 19, 2012, 09:14:38 AM
What's the chance of someone authoring a step-by-step 'backup guide'?  I know there is a lot of info out there already when you search, but it's all 'here and there' and would be nice in one place perhaps.  Since I'm in the process of re-loading all of my apps (and starting from ZERO again on all games) it would hve be really cool to just click and have everything back as it was, for sure.  Oh, I know I should hve backed up to begin with but, for one thing, I just didn't quite know how much or which of all the many tools/options to use.  Just a suggestion...

+1 from me.

I am a bit confused by all of the 'backup' terms.

I'll speak with BFM and Prime, I'm sure we can sort something.

I think I'll make a 'Nexus 7 Storage and Backup' as a 'child board' under the 'Nexus 7 Connect' Forum.   If it becomes big we can always break it out as its own forum.  What do you guys think?  Maybe someone could write some kind of guide and we can sticky it there as well.

Is that because it's sooo simple that only a 'child' would ask for such a thing??  ::)  JK, I think that sounds like a great idea.

What sorry if things do you guys want explaining?

An explanation on nandroid backups and Titanium backups, the uses and benefits. Anything else you've come across?

I suggest that we we have separate guides for nandroid and Titanium Backup.

I think that in the beginning people get confused with backing up system and where to save the file. The recovery of system rom and settings in the event of a boot loop or general problems and then the recovery of apps and games with Titanium to the minute they last were backed up. I know that speaking for myself with all of the apps out there I was really confused with how to do what until I was forced to fix the issue that I created by screwing around. I still could use a refresher and a general how to do would be great. If I can help in any way please let me know.

I've made a start, covered an explanation of nandroid, how to create a nandroid backup in both CWM and TWRP and how to restore a nandroid backup in CWM and TWRP. Will cover Titanium when I have time...

If anybody feels I have missed anything out it's too complicated then please let me know preferably by PM.

Thanks, JayJ.

The ToolKit includes an option to backup your tablet before rooting, but I suggest copying to a pc by usb cable anything not obtained from Google Play, which is accessible by your Google account. Remember that the type of backup determines your restore options.
