Title: Unable to save Internet pictures or open links in new window
Post by: Nexuseven on October 25, 2012, 11:17:43 AM
I bought my Nexus 7 a week ago and to save Internet pictures I just held the stylus over the image and the options popped up to save the image just like right clicking a mouse on a normal PC. To open up links in a new tab it was the same process.

Strange thing is i am suddenly unable to get the options to appear when I hold the stylus over an image or a link. I cannot save pictures or open links in a new tab.

Why is this so and how do I revert back to how it was. I am not happy as it's not user friendly in my case.

Someone please help.... I can't find any info on this. I'm thinking of just doing a factory reset but I shouldn't have to.

Agreed, you shouldn't have to.

Were you doing anything different this itme around?  Using a new app, or possibly getting the picture that could be locked, or something?  My thought is to rule out the small, easy to miss stuff.

I am actually app phobic and just use my device for researching products and email. General use and a bit of YouTube. Since its happened two days ago, I've turned it off twice and it still happens. I've only downloaded a few apps...... Swiftkey3..... Camera application..... Emergencyaus.... And a screen rotation unlocker.... So its hardly been used.... I would have thought it would be just like a normal PC command..... The picture goes into the Blue color when I hold the stylus down so it knows I'm holding it down... I just don't get the option to save image, copy url, and all the other options that appeared for the first few days.... I reckon I bought a lemon. It takes forever to power up when I hold down the power button at start up too.

I can't say anything overly great about it with the dramas I'm having.

I hate to say it, but I would give the Factory Reset a shot.  If that doesn't work, I would probably give a call to Google, and get it swapped out.  From my understanding, they have been good about that.

Are you using the stock Chrome browser? Maybe you inadvertently changed something so try clearing the data in the browser...

Menu> Settings> Apps> All> Chrome> Clear data...

I'm not saying this will definitely fix your issue but I would try this before a factory data reset.

Go to Google Play and download an alternative browser and if the issue is corrected, you can stay with that browser or do the factory reset.

Last night when I thought I turned the nexus off, it asked me about going into safe mode so I accepted. Today when I went to turn it on, it was already on stand by and in 'safe mode' and upon trying Google chrome, I have found that the original keyboard is back and the swiftkey3 was gone and all web pages suddenly allowed me to save images and to open links in new tabs.

My nexus is still in safe mode as it has a water mark in the bottom left corner of the screen with the words 'Safe mode'. I've got no idea why it kicked into safe mode and I assume to power off again will take it out of safe mode.

What I can't comprehend is why it needed to go into safe mode when its only just over a week old and has hardly any apps on it.

My laptop doesn't have such issues and its a 5 year old Dell.

I'm thinking that the laptop is better for smoother operation. This new android technology obviously has a longgggggg way to go before its more superior than my windows 7 PC.

I'm now sceptical about this nexen 7 rubbish and the silly android jelly bean. With a stupid name like jelly bean, it doesnt even sound serious. The dudes who come up with that title must have been tripping on drugs. I don't trust its efficiency. In my experience, how can I be positive about it when what should have been a simple standard task to open a web link in a new tab turned into a frustrating experience within a week of owning the damn thing.

The problems that just occurred would be unheard of on a Windows computer.

As we move technology forward, problems seem to go exponentially backwards....?

Have you tried >settings >Language & input > MOUSE/TRACKING) > pointer speed?

I don't know if it works,,  but give it a try. I
