All of a sudden, my Google Chrome icon got replaced by a green Android icon. The Chrome browser still works. I'm just wondering why it happened, and whether it signifies anything. The following screen capture shows an intermediate morph that lasted a couple of minutes.
-
Hmmm... hasn't happened to my Chrome icon yet.

I had frozen and unfrozen the DSP Manager system app prior to the Chrome icon morphing. After the icon switched, I removed the shortcut from my homescreen and inserted another one. The second icon morph is what I grabbed with the screen capture. It takes about 5 minutes to occur. The last web page I looked at using Chrome is still available when I tap the Android Chrome icon.
I'm going to uninstall Chrome and reinstall it, to see if it fixes this strange behavior.

I just received the notice that my Chrome icon has been replaced as well.
-
As I said, I received the notice, but I don't see a difference.
-
What kind of notice did you receive? You say the icon didn't change? Have you rebooted?
I just bought a new Nexus and neither of mine have that icon. Weird.
-
Chrome just had an update. Most likely this is a result of the new update.

Yes, late last night, I restored my Nexus 7 to an Oct 29 Nandroid backup. Shortly thereafter, a Chrome update started automatically, followed by the icon morphing.
-
I had a Chrome update but don't see any difference.
-
Same thing happened to me, but only for the Chrome icon on my home page. The Chrome icon in the "apps" page (can't remember what the official name is), still had the chrome icon.

Thanks for the confirmations from other users. I'm not going crazy :).
The apps/widgets section is called the drawer, and my Chrome icon is intact there. It morphs into the Android icon when I place the Chrome shortcut on my home screen. I'm running the Paranoid Android ROM, so I should check for a current gapps file to see if PA has added Chrome as a gapp.

Had it happen on wife's Transformer tablet.
Removed from home screen and re-added - seems OK at the moment.
