If you are wondering what the screen image looks like on the Nexus 7, here are some screen shots.

How were these screenshots captured?  Can you finally do screenshots from Jellybean without rooting it?  If so that would be amazing!

It was not noted how the screen shots were made. Now a FYI; Screenshot ER, from the Google Play Store, which does require rooting, makes screen shots an easy task. Here is one from my TPT using Screenshot ER, Click on the image if viewing in a web browser to enlarge:

Tell me what app allows me to get a screen capture, and I'll do it.  I tried this app (see picture), which clearly states it's compatible with the N7, but it pops up an "incompatible" error message when I try to open it.

Push the volume down and power button at the same time. No app is needed, the screen shot function is included in this OS.

It might take some practice to get the timing right when pushing the two buttons at the same time.

Sorry, but I'm a slow learner.  Is there a message or indication when I've successfully done a screen capture?  Does the image show up in the Gallery or elsewhere?  And, anticipating problems all the way along, how do I attach it if it's not available in the Gallery?
Title: Re: Screen Shots from the Nexus 7
Post by: birdastrompgman on July 18, 2012, 11:31:51 AM
I think I got it. It chimed a bell and the screen capture photo shrank and moved to the lower left corner.  There's a screenshot photo in my gallery.  Unfortunately, it's too large to attach to this message.  Next is downloading a photo editing app.

Create a photo bucket.com account and upload the photo there. Then under share copy and paste the "viewable thumbnail" code into your forum post. That's what I did.

use a site like photobucket or an imaging program like photoshop or paintshop pro and reduce the size to 500 x 800.   Forum rules state that all images must be no larger than 600 wide or 800 high whichever is greater.

Been happy with BW, but I think have to agree with you on HD being the better product. Very slick system to build your widget. With BW you have to sort through countless examples to find what is close to what you want.

Guys, you can get a screenshot from the Nexus 7 at any time just by pressing the volume down and power buttons at the same time until you hear the confirmation tone.  That's it!  No rooting necessary.  See this: http://nexus7forum.com/index.php?topic=254.0 (http://nexus7forum.com/index.php?topic=254.0)

The volume slider bar is an artifact from pushing the volume down button before the power button during the screen capture.

From what I can see no rooting is required to create a homescreen like that, launchers like Nova and Apex give lots of customization options and the rest are just widgets available from Google Play store.

Nope, I didn't root for that. It's the nova launcher. I suggest checking out a new launcher, next best thing to rooting.

However I'm finding with this live background, my N7 isn't quite as smooth.

Go to apps, find nova settings, drag the icon to top right - app info and then hit clear defaults. Next time you hit home you should get the option of the stock launcher again.

Press menu (three dots), select reply and once you have a text entry box open tap the small camera icon next to Discard. Select Gallery and find the screenshot you want to post and select it, once you've done this a pop-up will appear containing the picture, select Tapatalk Hosted. You'll then get a pop-up with info, agree and the picture link (IMG) will be placed in the text entry box.

That's cool. What is the half circle tool on the left?
What are the other widgets you are using?

Thank you. I use adw launcher on my phone but have not yet decided what to use on the nexus 7. Am now playing with Nova launcher.
Any reason why you prefer adw to nova, apex, go, etc?

It offers a lot of customization and had a ton of options while still being very fast. I'm a lot more familiar with it than other launchers but I feel like it has a lot more tweaks with it.

I know there hasn't been much activity here lately. But I changed my homescreen.

I've made it into a Fallout Pip-Boy

Using UCCW, Minimalistic Text, Simplistic Text, Phantom Music Control and a Pipboy 3000 live wallpaper.

Enjoy!
