Title: Connecting to pc
Post by: Maltyke on November 22, 2012, 03:51:20 PM
I understood this could not be done but i tried it and it worked.
i connected to my pc using usb cable that comes with nexus and it picked it up no probs.
I then copied and pasted a movie in avi format from my pc to my nexus movie folder and it played no problem using mx player on my nexus.
I am using windows 7 and my nexus as the latest jelly bean update 4.2
No doubt others have discovered this too but i thought i would put a new post up for newbies like me.
Interesting to see if the movie gets deleted like some other nexus users have had the misfortune to experience.

I've had no issues with doing just as you described. My movies show up in my gallery and they are opened by default with MxPlayer. I don't think you have to worry about files disappearing. I think that isolated case was operator error.

Same observation here. I can transfer/copy files just fine.

As you figured out, Connecting to a pc isnt just for charging extra slow. Its for moving files too.

Sadly on my windows 7 64bit I get errors and I cannot view the nexus as a USB drive. I get a mtp USB driver failed error. And I cannot get it working for the life of me. Worked right away on my wife's old windows XP computer.

The Nexus 7 should show up as a MTP device in windows 7. Go to Device Manager in Windows 7 and delete any devices that reference your Nexus 7 that are not completely installed. Then search for new devices. Remember it does not setup as a USB device, rather a MTP device. I am using Windows 7 64X with no issues.

It appears that a lot of people have problem in getting N7 recognized by the PC ( me included). I use Win 7 32 bit
In January and before I was able to see N7 in my computer without problem and I transfer my Kindle books to the N7 easily Shortly after ward and before the upgrade to 4.2.2 I was no longer able to see it in my computer folder.
I search google, read tons of posts on XDA Developments and tried all the suggestion and still not working.
I use both Wug Toolkit and skipsoft Toolkit but no go
I tried both the MTP & PTPconnection but again no go.
I was able to successfully installed the Android ADB driver without problem but when I plug the N7 to the PC.. the Nexus 7 ( or MPT USB device) in the portable section of device manager failed to install the driver
If I choose the MTP connection I see a Google Nexus 7 ADB interface and MTB USB device on  device manager screen. If I switch it to PTP connection, the device manager screen will temporarily show Nexus 7 in Other devices, then subsequently failed to install the driver and it disappear leaving MTP USB devces in the Portable Devices section.
In either case the PC said that it failed to installed the USB driver
If I try to update the driver using the driver PDANet or Samsung or in the driver folder of Wug N7 Tool Kit, the PC said that I have the latest driver
I use both original usb cable and also try other usb cable but the result is same. Tried different usb port and still same result
I also try to install Microsoft MTP protocal but no luck
I am running out of idea on this, there are more than dozen of post on XDA but no clear result what the real problem was

Anyone have a bright idea to get this resolved ?
Thanks in advance

Sometimes the different ways that the internal storage mounts will affect how the drivers are installed. This is because multiple drivers are required for full functionality.  Windows should install them if you have an internet connection and are up to date. Make sure that you have the new fastboot and adb drivers available from   here  (http://"goo.im/devs/WugFresh/NexusRootToolkit/new_adb_and_fastboot.zip")

Download that zip and extract/unzip its contents into the toolkits/data directory and agree to overwrite those files.

Try booting into recovery and mount your internal storage. Booting into fastboot can also trigger the driver install.

I did try those new files before but still did not work
May be I wait for WugFresh ver 1.6.3 for 4.2.2
Thanks
