When you connect your Nexus 7 to your PC you can use Windows explorer to put the Music anywhere you want, the internal memory has a Music folder so just copy & paste your music to that or any other folder.
Don't worry too much about where things are because the stock Music app will search the whole internal memory for music formats compatible with that application.

I would suggest using a cd ripping program to convert your music to a compressed format like MP3's or any other compressed format, you will save considerable space on your Nexus 7 and you will be able to simply drag and drop your compressed music files to the music folder on the Nexus 7 using your computer's MTP (Media Transfer Protocol).
