I’ve a question about GPS and the Navigation and Google Earth apps.
I open Navigation or Google Earth, and it tells me that I must the enable location. I click on Ok, and it opens the “Google apps location settings” screen. It is “Off” and the switch is disabled (grayed out).
I click on the “Location access” button, and the “Location access” screen opens. On that screen, “Access to my location” is “On”, and both “GPS satellites” and “Wi-Fi & mobile networks location” are checked.
The Android version is 4.2.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks,
Jack

When you go to location access, can you toggle the slider at the top? What position is this slider in?

On the Location Access screen, the slider is on, and I can change it. The GPS and Wi-Fi checkboxes are also checked. Also, as I said above, the slider on the Google apps location screen is Off and disabled (grayed out).

Go to settings /accounts /google/location settings. Turn it on. You should be OK then.

I think that should have got you rolling.
Please let us know how things worked out.

Yes, that did it. Thanks.
Do you have a recommendation for a good book that explains the Nexus 7 in some depth?
Thanks again.

Have you read the Nexus 7 guide on the Play Books application (blue open book icon)?
It's free or you can purchase others that go into more detail on Play Books, just search Nexus 7.

Yes I've read the Nexus 7 guide that came with the device. I'm looking for something a bit (actually a lot) more in depth. Does anyone have any recommendations? I don't want to buy without first having some idea of its contents.
Again, thanks everyone for your replies.

There was mention on another thread of a user guide that you can download free from the Asus website.

The user guide on the Asus website looks like it's the Google doc (same book, different download location).
