Title: Problems with high resolution images?
Post by: asayan on November 28, 2012, 03:27:43 PM
Hey, all. My first post here. I was wondering if anybody else came across this problem:

I copied about 200 photos from my PC into the nexus gallery. They're in a folder called "X"--not really, but let's just say that's the name of the folder. These photos are high-res jpgs, about 5k image resolution. Well, when I go into the folder and try to scroll through the photos, Nexus hangs for about 3 seconds, closes the gallery, and goes back to the home screen/dash.

Now, I'm not entirely sure if it's the high-res images that are problematic, but it sure seems like it!

Has anybody else experienced this? If so, is there a fix?

Thanks in advance!

I'd suspect the image viewer.  Try clearing the cache and data from your viewer app.  If that doesn't fix it, try another photo viewer app.

Did you try putting them in the pictures folder?

With that many images Android needs to create a Thumbs.db file . It is possible that you are scrolling before the thumbs file is completed . In the Gallery app tap the folder X and wait several minutes before scrolling .
My uneducated guess.

Aha!  So that's where my phantom 3 and 4gb thumbxx files came from.  They've exceeded my available storage space, and nothing adverse happened when I deleted them.

They've phantom files, not nearly the size indicated. I never had more than about 40 photos on my Nexus 7.

Edit:40 photos, not 4G photos

I'm not the lowest of the low, but I am the slowest of the slow.

5k is hi res....

I've got pics on my N7 taken with an 8 mega pixel smartphone that are around 900kB and I wouldn't call them hi res...

I wish we knew if you figured out what the issue is or was. This is how we all learn here.

I've not had any problems like this with pics and the gallery app, thumb nails don't effect the actual picture just the thumb nail...
