Title: how to delete contact photos?
Post by: sftamx1 on December 01, 2012, 08:36:18 AM
I've searched, but nothing comes up in regards to deleting google contact info on the Nexus 7, especially pictures associated with them. Is there a way to delete these?  Thanks in advance!

Open the People application (Contacts), select the contact you would like to edit and tap the pen/pencil icon top right to edit.
To remove the picture from a contact just tap the picture and a menu will appear with the options, Remove photo, Take new photo and Select new photo from Gallery.

Hope that helps...

Most of my pictures in People are connected with Friendcaster. I use it instead of FB. It seems in the situation where the picture is from someone else's profile you don't have control of the photo. Google Plus etc..If you inserted the photo of that contact yourself initially then you should have control.

Great! On a related question, how do you remove pictures/videos from the gallery?  Thanks!

You can long press on a thumbnail and that picture will be highlighted, select any other pictures in that folder (multi select) and then press the trash can top right.
Or you could use/install a file manager to manage and delete files, or if you have pictures you want but don't want to be displayed in the Gallery you can add a .nomedia file to the folder using a file manager and pictures and that folder will not be visible in the Gallery app.

JayJ, I'm not seeing the trash can. I can highlight the thumbnail, but no trash can appears? What could be wrong? Thanks again!

What I was saying was the PEOPLE app which I think that you are referring to, Doesn't let you change the picture of some of your contacts depending on where they were imported from.
You asked for help and I was trying to help. Figure it out.

They were Imported from my HTC Rezound, I was able to delete the associated contact info, but still not able to delete the pics (many with NO contact relevance)from the Gallery.

@ sftamx1

You may have missed JayJ's reference to long pressing which means to touch and hold until you are given a screen change with different options.

Sometimes in gallery the trash can doesn't show up. Just highlight the picture and in the menu there should be a delete option. Don't worry, you don't have to use Waste book.
If you would have mentioned the gallery in your original post it would have been a lot easier for everyone to try and decipher your problem and help.

Still not finding a delete option, in menu, after a long press.Very strange. Thanks for trying to help, though.

Are you in the Gallery ? You don't have to long press sometimes just highlight the pic and then use the menu in the top right. Inside there should be a delete option.

A file manager is going to be your next move like JJ suggested.

I've tried it on all folders/pics on my 7 and it works for them all, can't understand why it's not working for you?

Place finger on a picture and hold until the screen changes to this view...

You can then select more pics and then the trash can, top right to delete...

I think I understand what the OP is talking about. There are certain pictures and folders that I simply cannot delete in my gallery. I think that they were  automatically downloaded as part of Google + ? You can see the little icon. I forget the name of the app where they are stored. I do however remember going to the website trying to clean house and I couldn't figure out how to  delete the folders/pics there.(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/12/02/vypeduhe.jpg)

Sure any pictures uploaded to G+ will need removing from that source alternatively if you don't want G+ pictures synced with the Gallery you can disable the the Picasa uploader application...

Settings> Apps> All> Picasa uploader> Disable...

Settings> Apps> All> Gallery> Clear data...

Now those G+ pictures will not be in the Gallery application.

Thanks for that info JayJ. I  was on the website version of Picasa and for some reason I can't delete the tags on the folders I had made. At least I know now how to keep them from showing up in my Gallery.
