Title: How are the Moku cases?
Post by: mrbeankc on December 02, 2012, 01:34:06 AM
My wife and I seem to be having the worst luck with cases. I have to admit we went the discount route but we're finally going to simply get a nice well made case and stop being...cheapskates.

We've looking at the Moku cases on Amazon. The reviews are great but it looks weird to be honest with those claws. How do those hold up and how is the Moku at protecting the Nexus?

As stated here, http://nexus7forum.com/nexus-7-accessories/love-my-moko-slim-fit/ (http://nexus7forum.com/nexus-7-accessories/love-my-moko-slim-fit/)

I love mine.  I've had it for two month now and it is still holding up fine.  It gives me a firm grip on my tablet and the confidence to carry it around.  It has a very firm grip, has a stylus holder and the stand feature works great.  I'm amazed you can get something that works this well for $15.

To me, the case looks like it would strain the corners of the tablet. I like it because it keeps the screen nice and open compared to leather folio cases, but the leather folio cases has a larger surface area which to me seems like it would be better for the tablet in regular use and in a drop.

Mine is excellent so far.  The protection is all where it's needed and mostly not where it would get in the way (if there ever is a dock, the pogo contacts are covered by the case - nothing that can not be fixed with an exacto).  For the price, you can't go wrong.

Best feature - slim ~ 7/10th of an inch total thickness with N7 inside- will still fit in your pocket

Worst feature - squirrelly magnet auto-on behavior when case opened -usually it turns on, or not, if in sleep mode lol

Have only had my N-7 for about a week and already love it.
I ordered one of  the Moku cases and am pleased with it as well, EXCEPT for one problem that may have me sending it back and continuing my search for a decent case.
The auto shut off and turn on when opening the case would be fine but for the fact that it also shuts off, and won't allow me to keep the tablet on, when the front of the case is folded flat against the back side of the unit.  This would be my preferred set up for reading but it always shuts the unit off.
Is there a setting that will get me around this problem, or do I live with it or send it back?
Thanks,
Rob ;D

You can DL an app that will modify this behavior - search on 'lockscreen'.  If you can't put up with it, send it back and get the Blurex variant, which works for me (no change when cover is opened all the way).

You can always fake it out with any magnet and have it turn ON when the cover gets in back.  check out this:

Thanks, Bigtroutz,
Think I'll return it and go for the alternative you mentioned.  Want to feel a little more comfortable with what's there now before I start downloading different gadgets!
Merry Christmas!

good luck with that.  it's pretty much the same as the Moku..nice and slim with decent protection for the corners, and the "standing" positions work nicely for watching movies, note-taking, reading, etc.  nothing is perfect tho...

"Good luck, indeed!"
I emailed BSCstore (retailer) last night and had the following response early this a.m.  I'm including it in it's entirety as it contains some useful information and certainly demonstrates EXCELLENT customer service on the part of BSC.

I am really really sorry for the experience. We will ship a replacement
case soon and there is no need to ship the defective case back ( it
could be missing the magnetic shield in the back cover) . You may
disable the auto on/off function on your current CASE by taking the
magnet out of  the case. It is embedded inside of the front
cover under the hand strap. You may need a sharp knife to accomplish
the task and then seal the opening with some
tape.  This way you can use the case as a layover case before the new
one arrives.

And again,  we apologize for all the inconvenience.

Regards,Jim

Nice outfit.  Always a plus when a company stands by it's product isn't it?

Now I understand WHY they can make it so that the magnet works on one side and not the other...I was wondering how that could work.  Thanks for posting their comments.
