Title: Are we in the Catbird Seat with Nexus 7 pre-orders?
Post by: S.Prime on July 15, 2012, 11:56:03 AM
You may feel slighted by Google with your Nexus 7 pre-order, seeing GameStop, Staples, Office Depot, and Sam's Club, with available stock on Friday, 13Jul2012 and no shipping charge, but they are all currently showing "Out of Stock", so they obviously had a limited allotment. Also, at this time the Google Play Store no longer shows that you can pre-order, rather "Available for Order" and "Shipping When Available". Therefore, from my point of view, if Google lives up to the promise of 13Jul2012, that all pre-orders would ship within 3 business days, those of us with pre-orders are in the "Catbird Seat". Google has received so many negative comments to their Google+ announcement about the initiation of pre-order shipping, that they have disabled comments, so I think they will certainly try to avoid a second black eye. Certainly I will have reservations about purchasing devices from Google Play, rather than retail outlets, in the future, but if they fail on meeting the 3 business day shipping announcement it would be a certainty that I would not. I am sure there are many soon to be Nexus 7 owners , like me, that pre-ordered in the first or second week of July and are still waiting on a shipping confirmation, but I for one am betting that Google honors their three day shipping promise.

3 day??? I was told 2 day shipping.  Once it left the facility and that it could take 2 days to process.

My feeling is that pre-orders mean that we were a loyal following that was tracking the development and anticipating the product, that we should have foist shot at getting them.

Yeah mine is also two days, and given it was shipped Friday evening and I get it tomorrow sometime that I guess is technically two business days.

I just hope my N7 isn't defective... when the DroidX first came out I was one of the early adopters but my unit was defective.  So I waited three weeks, had it for one day, then had to wait another three weeks before getting the replacement due to stock.

So I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I don't by some chance get a bum unit since that's how my luck normally goes.

Sam, in the "ship date" thread, Google told me:

.....the advantage of ordering through them was service.  That if I received a 7 that was dinged or missing a pixel, etc.  they would send out a replacement in advance whereas a retailer would not have it in stock and I would have to wait a month after returning it.

Nice to know, but hope you don't have to find out if true or not.

I am feeling a bit less smug at this point, as I just saw where Staples and Office Depot are showing the Nexus 7 in stock and Staples listing delivery by Friday the 20th of July. I am in no rush for the N7, but I understand the frustration, that many who have pre-ordered are showing and certainly the Google Play Store is certainly not positioning itself to encourage future device purchases. Personally I remain confident that Google will live up to its last Friday promise to ship all pre-orders in 3 business days, but one would think that if you are paying $13.99 for shipping, the infrastructure should be in place for timely fulfillment. I am hoping that Google does not require me to eat my words.
