Post by: ivan on December 12, 2012, 07:37:40 AM
Sorry if this has already been posted, I did a quick search and didn't find.anything.

My old otg cable is starting to break, which otg cable is recommended for the N7?

Thanks!

I bought this  cable.  (http://www.amazon.com/Electronics-Micro-USB-OTG-Cable/product-reviews/B005GGBYJ4/ref=pd_ys_sf_s_172282_a1_20_r?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1)  When I broke it, I ordered 3 more. One of the 3 was defective, but the seller shipped me a replacement free of charge.

I'm not the lowest of the low, but I am the slowest of the slow. 49.6 mpg avg for 38k miles in non-hybrid Scion xB

Ivan, I'm curious what you are using your cable so much for that it is breaking... (?)

Radio,
It was probably defective in the first place,  however the cable is 1.5 years old. Originally purchased for my wife's motor Xoom. If you wiggle the otg the wrong way it looses connection.

Bird, thanks for the recommendation,.sadly it's not on amazon.ca guess I'll have to keep looking.

Well I grabbed:http://www.amazon.ca/Micro-USB-OTG-2-0-Adapter/dp/B005QX7KYU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1355334645&sr=8-1
Hopefully that works.

I just noticed my OTG cable vendor raised his price from an original 97 cents (IIRC) to $1.97 to $9.97.  I'd recommend them at the lower prices, but would start shopping again at 10 times the original price.

I use a wide variety of types and usually buy several of each since they are so cheap.

@Ivan,

I noticed you bought this :
Well I grabbed:http://www.amazon.ca/Micro-USB-OTG-2-0-Adapter/dp/B005QX7KYU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1355334645&sr=8-1

Can I ask a stupid question (I am new to this lol):  Is the use of a micro usb otg cable to enable you to use a regular sized usb stick/flash drive, etc? on your Nexus 7.  For copying stuff over from one to the other, so to speak?

Thanks in advance.

Yes. If not rooted, you will need to use the Nexus Media Importer app to view and stream files via USB stick. Read only. No write. If rooted you can use Stickmount which allows you to write to the stick as well. This answers part of your why root question.
