Post by: dogdogdog on December 14, 2012, 08:09:18 PM
Hi,

new dude here,
what category do games from my pc get put into?  android, download?  I have games that are for tablets but cannot get them to play on new nexus 7.
Thanks loads in advance.

The Nexus 7 is an Android tablet so unless the games are Android applications and the install file is a .apk they will not work on the Nexus 7.

What are you trying to install?

I simply do not know what category to place the game from the pc, I can't even come close to finding instructions on how to put games that are already owned on it.

Okay, it's a .rar so you need to unpackage it with either an app on your N7 like Unrar or something like WinRar on you PC (or equivalent if WinRar is not available on Mac).

To sideload an app you first need to check unknown sources...

Settings> Security> Device administration> tick Unknown sources.

Now the .apk file can be placed anywhere on the device, at the root of the internal user memory or in any folder including self created folder, you'll need a file manager on your Nexus 7 like Astro File Manager, ES Explorer or Solid Explorer. Simply locate the .apk where you placed it using your Mac and tap the .apk, the Android application installer should start and follow the steps to install the app.

I will add, be sure an application in .apk format came from a reliable source because downloaded .apk's from the web is one of the main sources of Android malware.

dogdogdog, follow the instructions that JayJ wrote and it should work.   This is assuming the file/game you are talking about is an Android game.  If it's a Windows or Mac OSX game then it will not work on an Android tablet.  It of course needs to be an Android game to run on the Nexus 7.  Let us know if you have any more questions.
