Title: Copy files from Winddows 7 PC doesn't work.
Post by: nodsirrah on December 17, 2012, 10:06:08 AM
I connected the N7 to my Win 7 PC, windows 7 explorer shows it as "Digital Camera Nexus 7", I click on it and I see "Internal Storage" with DCIM and Pictures folders.  I tried to create a new folder and I get a popup that says "The folder could not be created in this location. The device has either stopped working or has been disconnected.
What do I need to do to create a folder so I can copy files from the PC to the N7?

Your registry and or device driver associations have been corrupted.

You need to do two things in this order:

1) get and run a GOOD registry cleaner  http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-registry-cleaner.htm (http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-registry-cleaner.htm)

2) reinstall or update your USB drivers by checking with the manufacturer of your motherboard.

In Windows 7 your Nexus 7 should show up as a Portable Device.  You can get the correct drivers from Asus at  here.  (http://support.asus.com/download.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=20&s=16&m=Nexus%207&os=32&hashedid=WzTziL1xapnpDNwF). After accessing the Asus support site click on Knowledge for help with connecting to a PC or Mac.

I registered at the Asus website but could never log in!
Google came to my aid, I went to Menu/Settings/Storage and tapped the 3 verticle squares in the upper right corner then changed from PTP (Camera) to HTP (Media Device) for USB computer connection.
Quick and simple, all I have to remember to go back and change it to Camera when I need to take pictures which won't be very often.

Open the notifications window (swipe down upper left corner).  You should see a message that says connected as a camera.  Touch the message for other USB options.

In the window that opens select Media Device (MTP).  After a few seconds your file explorer should change to Nexus 7 Portable Media Player.
