I used my Nexus to view the web uaing both yahoo Google and youtube. I have just got my credit card bill and there are several items on the bill marked Googleyoutube.
Surely I am not charged to view youtube using the nexus ? > Am I confused here?

Yes Youtube does have "Pay Content" and below are the terms of service.

YouTube allows you to view certain video content ("Pay Content") for a fee by streaming or downloading (as applicable) that content through YouTube for a specified price (the "Service"). The Service includes movie rentals on YouTube and any other YouTube service or feature that makes such Pay Content available to you via YouTube. Basically, 99% of content on Youtube is free.  But they do offer some pay shows and movies that apparently you must have chosen to watch.  However it does clearly state what is pay and what is free so it's kind of hard to 'accidentally' watch a pay show.   It's possible though.
