Title: Reading books
Post by: isladeiona on December 26, 2012, 11:16:59 AM
Hi, I bought my 72 yr old a nexus 7 to mainly read books as she has poor eyesight and so can make text bigger. I bought her a few books from the google play store in my account but it seems that when I log out of my account and into hers the books disappear.  I tried pinning them but cant see them anywhere.

I do not want to have to keep my account on my mums nexus incase she accidentally purchases things from the playstore by accident.  Can one of you knowledgeable people walk through this with me as I am not familiar with the nexus 7.

Many thx

Set your account up with a PIN, so  you can access it, but your mum can''t.

Thx for reply.  A pin would be good but if my mum cant access my account then she cant read her books I bought her which are on my account. This is my problem.

I think what bird means is a PIN on your Google Play account, this will stop anybody purchasing from your Google Play account without your knowledge.
To do this...

1. Open Google Play app.

2. Press the three dots, top right and select Settings.

3. Scroll to and select Set or change PIN, enter a PIN and press OK.

4. Re-type the PIN to confirm and press OK again.

5. Now tick the check box Use PIN for purchases.

Now when you opt to purchase anything on Google Play on this device you'll be required to enter that PIN to complete the purchase.

Hope that helps.

The PIN is only required for purchasing, I believe.

I'm not the lowest of the low, but I am the slowest of the slow (49.6 mpg over 38k miles in  Scion xB)

This is a common misunderstanding with a google device.  Items purchased are only available when the purchasing account is active on that particular device. I think you discovered this the hard way.  You can set the pin so that purchases cannot be made on that device, but there will still be acess to other information such as emails, browsing history, purchases, etc.  If you want to extract the pinned files from one account with a file manager and insert them manually, we can help you.  It is kind of tricky unless you are quite familiar with the android system.

You bought your 72 year old a Nexus?  Daughter?Mother? Amazing to hear in any event.  Sounds like you have been given some good advice so far and welcome to the forums as well. Happy Holidays.
I see now.  Mum.  That is supercool.
