Title: Paid apps not showing in store
Post by: jackdelamare on December 27, 2012, 06:24:15 PM
Hello, I just got a Nexus 7 for Christmas (after wanting one for months) and I'm very happy with it! Everything's working great so far except the Play store. I noticed that its not displaying apps you have to purchase. I can download all the free apps fine, but there's no section for paid apps.

I've searched everywhere I can on the device, and Google'd numerous different things and haven't been able to find a solution. It seems to be quite a unique problem.

I don't really know what Google Wallet is so I don't know if this makes a difference? Because I can't seem to find it on my Nexus and when I went on the app page (got the play store link through Google) it said it wasn't available in my country. I'm in the UK.

Thanks!

Open Google Play and tap the downward pointing arrow top right, you will be taken to the installed application screen. Now swipe the screen left to open the All apps screen, here will be all applications installed on this Google account on all devices that have been attached to this account.

Already done this, but it does not solve my problem.

Try clearing the data from Google Play and force stopping the app...

Settings> Apps> All> Google Play Store> Clear data/Force stop.

If that doesn't work you could try removing your Google account and then re-adding it...

Tried both of these things and they didn't work.

Try opening this link and select to open with Play Store and see if it shows up.

It shows up indeed, but it says "This item is not available in your country". As I said in my first post, my country is the United Kingdom.

You should try to boot in safe mode and check if it solves the problem :

Press the Power button on your device during.
Touch & hold the Power off option in the dialog box.
Touch OK in the following dialog to start safe mode.

Try using your device in safe mode to see if the problem persists. If it doesn’t, restart your device to get it out of safe mode and uninstall recently installed apps to see if you can pinpoint the one that’s causing the problem.

Safe mode didn't work and I think this problem was always there from the moment I went into the Play store. I downloaded Facebook first.

Don't you just connect to internet thru a proxy?

Don't you just connect to internet thru a proxy?

Sorry?

I've done a little bit of research and discovered Google Wallet is only available in the US, so it makes sense why I can't get the app, but online when I went to wallet.google.com, my Google account is there and the credit card I used to pay for apps on my old android phone is still there. The card is still active.

There seems to be no settings/options in the Play store that allows you to change/choose payment methods and no settings or options ON my Nexus that will allow me to do the same.

Its a weird problem. The Play store works fine, but the paid apps are just not there.

@jackdelamare - What is it you're trying to download?

Google Wallet is only to pay for things direct from your device.

Can you access your GP account:

https://play.google.com/store/account

Can you take a few screenshots and post please.

You have the FREE apps page showing in GP app.

Can you not swipe to another page that shows TOP PAID or TOP GROSSING etc., such as:

No, this is my exact point - there are no paid apps in my play store. You can see on my screenshots how there's no option to swipe to "Top Paid Apps" or anything. They are not in the Play store.

Have you tried adding a different Google account to the play store? With a creditcard?
On a side note..I have read that if you remove the account and then redo the process it should work.

Google Play detects that you are in a location where you cannot buy anything on Google Play.  There isn't anything you can do about it unless you find an app that spoofs your location (check out Tunnelbear).  My Nexus 7 works fine in the US but I cannot buy anything in some other countries.

I tried re-adding my account with no luck. Can't remove an account.

My debit card is still active and surely I should be able to purchase stuff from the UK? I had an Android phone a few months ago and was able to buy apps from the Play store.

I'll give Tunnelbear a try.

Nope, it was bought here in Guernsey (UK) and is still Herr. My old android phone was bought here and used here and I could buy apps from the Play store.

I am stumped. Anything I have read about the issue seems to get resolved by deleting the account off the nexus and reinstalling. Weird.

Happy New Year Jack. I am out moving furniture  but  hopefully someone can chime in on how to delete the account and proceed with process. If you haven't tried it, I think maybe it could be your golden nugget. I will be back as son as I can.

To remove an account go to Settings - Accounts - Long press on the account you want to remove - select remove account

Then select add accounts and add it back.

Happy New Year guys!

So I added a new account, deleted my main account then re-added and deleted the other one. When I re-added it, it asked me to add a credit card for the Play store and for Google Wallet. I thought BOOM this is it... Went through, added my card and finished adding the account.

Went into the Play store and... Nothing has changed. Even after adding my card the Play store is only displaying free apps.

I'm so confused now.

Could this be an issue of locale?
Do we have any users in Great Britain that are seeing paid apps?

I don't know for sure, but in my business (ePub of games) we are capable of excluding games from specific locales.

Dennis

Might be a long shot but has there ever been any issues related to the Channel Islands? Although wouldn't make much sense considering my old Android phone was bought and used here (and the play store worked).

I searched a bit and Maestro cards are no longer accepted by google. You can try using the card numbers as a Mastercard, or get your bank to issue a Visa or Mastercard debit. If that isn't it then...

#4319215 is my issue "only seeing free apps in the Play store" but it says as of August 2012 there's no fix. Seriously?

Post by: matt on January 03, 2013, 06:42:24 PM
Tunnelbear is a vpn proxy service. There's a link to it in one of the threads of trying to get english google play in another country. Basically, you connect through your wifi to a server in us or uk, and that server becomes your location to google. If you know a business owner in the uk with a private network, you might be able to do the same thing. Vpn= virtual private network. Some people use vpns to work at home. The credit card billing address may have something to do with it, there are location unlocked cards available.

Contact google support. Maybe we're missing something... like 2 step verification or a mistyped address.
Does your phone still work with play?

Does 2-step verification need to be active?

So google does not recognize the location of your internet provider. Contact the ip so they can resolve it with google, or they could tunnel all their traffic to a server on the mainland.

Well I'm not sure why this would be, as I said I did have an Android phone before this tablet and that worked fine. I'll contact my IP when I'm back. Guess that's the last thing I can do...?
Title: Re: Paid apps not showing in store
Post by: matt on January 05, 2013, 07:29:20 PM
Since you no longer have the phone, it could be something new happening with the ip? Do you know someone on the same ip that uses play?

It does seem to be a location problem. The country location of your tab may be determined by internet provider, gps, credit card address. Long shot, but try setting home address in google maps and google now.
Title: Re: Paid apps not showing in store

As we figured out the tablet worked when I took it to the UK; the Play store showed everything for sale and I could purchase apps. Luckily, when I went back to Guernsey it continued to work, so I guess whatever happened solved the problem!

Thanks for the help!
