Title: Battery = 0% 'unknown' after charging for 5 hours!
Post by: Chrispy on January 02, 2013, 07:09:40 AM
Brand new N7, charged for 5 hours
Battery status in Settings: 0% - Unknown

I've tried the power and volume button trick without success.

What intrigues me is that I've kept the N7 powered on, without the charge cable in, for 3 hours with 0% battery!

I'm waiting on the retailer to advise me what to do.

How can the thing keep going for 3 hours without any battery.
Seems to me the battery status report is just plain wrong!

I confess I'm starting to regret spending so much money for problems like this!

Any advice?

Thanks

Chris

Sorry about your frustration Chrispy. If you have tried several remedies without it working your Nexus might need a factory reset. You will lose data so it would be wise to backup anything that you want to keep. Documents..pictures etc.

That's what I would recommend, I usually never see this as a viable solution but since your tablet is still new you shouldn't have too much data to lose.

It may just need to finish calibrating, run through a few charge/discharge cycles and see if it clears up.

If you are rooted, you can delete data/system/batterystats.bin to reset the battery usage stats.(it will recreate) but try the full discharge and recharge first.

Thanks for the thoughts,

I've already tried a reset, made no difference at all.

I've had it charging overnight, but it is still reporting 0%

And no, I haven't rooted it; I haven't had the chance yet!

I think this unit is going back to it's maker!

Yeah I wouldn't try to root I would just replace it.

I see you also were having problems trying to update because of the battery. I think it might need to go back too.

After suffering some hopeless support from Asus here in Australia, the unit is on it's way back to the dealer for replacement, at my cost of course!

1. The dealer, Wireless 1 in Sydney, advises I have to deal with Asus on warranty matters.
2. Asus advise me to return the unit to my local Asus Service Center.
3. I drive 100km to the Melbourne Asus Service Center.
4. They only do laptops! 'Please contact the Sydney Service Center'
5. 1st guy at Asus in Sydney gets all my details then the call drops out.
6. 2nd guy at Asus in Sydney says ' all you've been told is BS'
7. As the unit was purchased less than 30 days ago, I have to negotiate with the dealer!
8. I'm given a DOA number by Asus, for reference by the dealer.
9. I drive 100km home, in a bit of bad mood!
10. Call the dealer in Sydney, OK, return it to us, at my expense!
11. Pay $20 for insured delivery.
12. Wait for G#d knows how long for a new unit.

Next step, a carefully composed letter to the head of Asus here in Australia!  >:(

Cheers

Chris
