Title: Wifi staying on during sleep
Post by: Chrisnewton on January 12, 2013, 10:17:58 AM
Hi all

My Wifi stays on during sleep even though in settings I have this option set to never.

Anyone else experienced this? And is there a way to make the Wifi go of when n7 is in sleep mode?

Thanks

Chris

Use Tasker from there play store.

How do you know if the Wi-Fi is on in sleep mode? Kinda reminds me of Schrödinger's cat...

Yes I also have had that happen .The mail client seems to keep the wifi on awhile or turn it back on . I used to use AutoAirplane app but it no longer works with JB 4.2 . Pull down the right settings and tap Airplane mode on . You will have to tap it off when you wake it up .

Yes you could but if the OP is having Wi-Fi sleep policy issues then let's address that first...

Chris, how do you know your Nexus 7 is ignoring the Wi-Fi off during sleep? Are you get any updates or emails during screen off time??

Too much coffee.

In settings/battery tap on the graph and you will see separate indicators for awake and screen off. just because the screen is off doesn't mean it's asleep. If you set up a lock screen, you'll notice that turning the screen back on immediately will take you back to where you left off, but if you wait a while, you get the lock screen.

With wifi set to never when asleep, the radio icon will be greyed out at first when waking from true sleep. When turning on the screen it will be blue. Check the graph for actual wifi behavior.

Confuse us say," I wasn't asleep, just pretending. And I do not snore."

Hi thanks for replies, I know it's still on as I have a case for my Nexus and when I close it, it shuts off, when it open case it goes to unlock screen and the Wifi is instantly on, also when I check battery settings its showing as constantly been on.

I'm stumped, if you turn it off manually, does it stay off?

If a program is periodically accessing the wifi, it may not be getting to sleep. Try leaving the sync button off. Check weather apps, Google Currents, email, auto update in Google Play, etc.

Go to settings>WiFi>menu key>advanced>keep WiFi on during sleep

I thought Wi-Fi goes Grey when asleep. As soon as you waken the device it is only a second or two and it turns back blue again.  How do you know for sure that it is still on if the screen is off and locked? To be honest I just turned my settings to never when asleep and put it to sleep.  When started back up it was on.  I can't tell the difference.

because if you look at battery usuage it tells you that wifi has stayed on, interestingly i kept mine on standby all day today when i went to work, when i came home i checked it and it had turned the wifi off, cant tell how long it took before it turned if off however.

If you aren't using the Wi-Fi and that worried about the battery drain while not using the unit why not just toggle Wi-Fi off?

Right, Wi-Fi will only go off once your Nexus 7 is in deep sleep.
To check whether your Nexus 7 is going into  deep sleep install CPU Spy (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bvalosek.cpuspy) from the Play store. There are many reasons why your Nexus 7 doesn't go into deep sleep but with this you can find out whether it is or not.

Because my N7 isn't my primary device (my N4 is), I have Wi-Fi set to go off when the screen is off. With this set, my N7 on but asleep in 13 hours of dormancy my N7 only used 4% battery which isn't bad considering what other have posted in other threads...
