Title: Nexus 7 File Management
Post by: Scriv13 on January 15, 2013, 02:28:56 PM
I'm a proud owner of a new Nexus 7. But it doesn't have a file management system of any kind. When I copy my photo folders across to the Nexus Pictures folder they appear in random order. The Nexus does not recognise the folders names, regardless of how I name them. What the Nexus does is position the folders in the order which they are copied across; first at the bottom and last at the top. Can someone advise me please on the File Manager apps that seem to be available. How to they work and would they sort out the order in which they are files. Also, which is the best File Manager to use.

I would suggest either ES  or Astro if not rooted. They are a good start and you can make an educated decision after playing with them and seeing what else is available at the store. My unit is rooted.  I use Root explorer..

Any pictures stored locally on your Nexus 7 should be displayed in alphabetical or chronological order according to folder or file name, I think the order can be confusing as it's top to bottom, top bottom et cetera.

Solid Explorer I'd also another great file manager and the reason there isn't one in the first place is to keep the operating system simple. Google don't think you need one, all files can be maintained through in-house applications like the Gallery, Music, Downloads et cetera.

Personally I use a file manager, I'm a little OCD about what's on my device. Especially with limited storage...

Thanks for your help and feedback everyone.

My folders when copied to the Nexus 7 "Pictures" folder certainly are not in any order by folder name. They appear in the order that I copied them across.

Not sure whether there's a setting to change this but there doesn't seem to be.

What other file explorers (besides ES) support LAN shares? ES also extracts zip files, has an integrated text editor, and has a very user friendly UI (even supports background images)

What file explorer is everyone using, and why? What are some of the features that you appreciate with your app of choice?

Drag and drop inside and between panels

File sharing via FTP
Support for ZIP, TAR.GZ, TAR.BZ2 and RAR archives
Creating ZIP and TAR archives
Dropbox, Google Drive, Box and Sky Drive (more soon)

I'm liking that app Jayj. Cool. Nice layout. Thanks for the tip. I'm going to need a file manager to manage all my file managers.lol
