Title: MHL adapter problem
Post by: Gunner6101 on January 26, 2013, 12:18:42 PM
So I got this thing from amazon in the mail today
http://www.amazon.com/Skiva-Adapter-Supported-Samsung-Sensation/dp/tech-data/B006FTKM12/ref=de_a_smtd

And it doesn't work I emailed the seller and am awaiting a response but wanted to see if I'm doing something wrong I've tried it with both my nexus 7 and my vzw galaxy nexus the only positive thing I got it to do was put the phone into landscape mode but still didn't put any video

MHL or Mobile High-Definition link is built into some devices like my HTC Flyer, which allows HDMI out from the MHL micro USB port while charging the device at the same time. You will probably have to plug a power source into the side of your MHL adapter to get it to work on a MHL capable phone. Also, I am sorry, but your Nexus 7 does not have a MHL port.

Well I did some more tinkering and I can get it to charge the nexus 7 and also tried it again again with my galaxy nexus and briefly got it to display the mirrored image on my TV but that was while wiggling the cables I'm gonna have them issue a replacement as this one seems to be defective

If you check "Settings" -"Battery" on your Nexus 7 when plugged into the MHL adapter you will probably note that it is charging at USB rate because the MHL adapter uses the same pins to charge as a USB cable plugged into your PC. Although, as I said, the Nexus 7 does not support HDMI out through the Micro USB port, so don't expect video from your Nexus 7. Notably your Galaxy Nexus Phone does have a MHL port and should work as long as the pins match.
