Title: Internet video freezing issue
Post by: captaincups on January 30, 2013, 08:38:03 AM
Hi,

I hoipe you can help me. When I try to watch video's online (you tube or on bbc for example) after about 90 secs the screen freezes. It happens on Chrome and Firefox. I don't think it is a flash player issue (though I am quite a novice).

Does anyone have any suggestions? It is doing my head in!

Much appreciated.

G

Welcome to the forums.
First off how is your internet connection? Any ideas as far as speed goes? In my experience, video can be tough to stream if you don't have a solid connection. I was using my phone to tether for a while and had a rough time. YouTube can be annoying for some folks. I went thru a period where it would get caught up buffering every few seconds and then just stop. I would have to toggle the HD button to get it rolling again. You mentioned browsers but are you using /trying the YouTube app as well?  Is it updated?
As far as Flash goes. CHROME doesn't support it and Firefox doesn't include it unless you have installed it yourself on the Nexus7. There is a tutorial around on how to install Flash. Shouldn't be part of the Youtube issue though.

As bjs said Chrome uses HTML5 for You Tube videos so either use Chrome for You Tube or the You Tube app.
As for BBC iPlayer, install BBC Media Player from Google Play which is a flash alternative for BBC iPlayer and works using a browser or the iPlayer app.

Speed isn't always the culprit. The issue sometimes is caused by a known bug in Android. I just heard news that a new update is going to be launched soon aimed at the Bluetooth and lag issues.
Only 2.5 Meg. That makes me smile. I remember trying to watch little 20 second Vids with a Windows 3.1 setup on dialup. The computer would crash twice before I would get to the money shot.
