Title: Can't Stream Videos
Post by: Katie on February 23, 2013, 06:13:11 AM
I have a wireless N router, and I am using the Nexus only 30 feet away from it. When I stream YouTube videos, the videos keep stopping and loading, so I can't really watch at all. However, videos stream perfectly on my laptop, which leads me to believe the problem may be with the Nexus.

Ideas? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to th the forums Katie.
YouTube has had some issues. It can be frustrating. If you toggle the HD button sometimes it will remedy the issue. They just updated the app on the 22nd of Feb and mine is running better. Did you update it?

This is my first handheld device...ever! So I am a bit embarrassed to say that I neither know how to toggle the HD button (on the screen?) or update the app (download a new app?). I'm sure it is very simple; I'm just a newbie.

Katie, open the "Play Store" app and tap the downward pointing arrow at the top right side of the screen to see your installed apps and any available updates will be listed under "Updates". Tap the app name and you will be given the option to update. The "YouTube" app was updated on my Nexus 7 today.

It's okay. That's why we are here. To help and learn. What I mean by toggle is turn on and off. There is a little HD button at the bottom left of the YouTube video. If it hangs I tap the HD button. Inconvenient. Did you update your tablet with the new update last week? It should be version 4.2.2 at this point. To check, go into settings.. About device. To see if YouTube is up to date open the app, tap the three
little dots top right. Settings/About/ The version should be at the bottom.
4.3.9 is the latest version. If you need help updating let us know.

Primes way of checking apps is easier. Take that route.

You could try uninstalling the updates and reinstalling them, sometimes works...

Menu> Settings> Apps> Swipe left twice for "All apps"> Scroll down to find You Tube and select > At the top select Uninstall updates and then Clear data.

Now open Google Play and tap the down arrow, top right and update You Tube. Now try...

You can always try alternate YouTube apps like PVStar+.  PVStar has an advantage in that it will continue to play sound while minimized and can download vids for later viewing.  There are a number of alternates like it. [ don't let the Japanese test bother you; english is supported ]
