Title: Connecting to ethernet without WiFi or wires
Post by: kopavi on February 27, 2013, 01:58:46 PM
I've seen several posts sorta dancing around the issue but not directly addressing my question.  In general I would like to connect to the net without WiFi or wires.  I do have an iPhone 3GS.  I presumed that I could use Bluetooth, but I cannot pair the two devices.  I suspect I could if I subscribed to the iPhone tethering function but would prefer not to as I am cheap.  Is there anyway to get the iPhone to recognize the Nexus 7 via Bluetooth without going through a tethering option?  Apps?  Widgets??

Any comments on the basic question of net access without WiFi or wires?

I know, I'm asking for miracles, but the Nexus 7 seems to be so capable, I wonder if I'm not overlooking something.

Thanks

Your issue here lies in the phone. It must be jailbroken if you wish to tether. For what reason so you wish to tether without Wi-Fi? The speed on Bluetooth is not made out for tethering.

I visit rellies who are of pre-computer vintage.  No internet access.  Nearest access is library across town.  LONG days without connection although I can surf a bit with the iPhone.  Using the Nexus would be grand.  I was not aware of Bluetooth speed.  I might just have to go with a formal tether via AT&T.  Life happens.

Thanks

I don't know how things work on the iPhone but Bluetooth tethering works fine with the N& to my Android phone.

Hre's a link I found about tethering via Bluetooth on th eiPhone, maybe it will help you: http://www.macworld.com/article/1159258/bluetooth_tethering.html (http://www.macworld.com/article/1159258/bluetooth_tethering.html)

Doesn't Bluetooth use data as well? Why not WiFi? Self depreciation doesn't get the job done .Jailbreak the phone or change to a.cheap everything prepaid android, root and enjoy.

Android now offers tethering apps that work without root, from what I understand, so are they not available for IOS, as well?

I'm as cheap as they come. Free Internet is everywhere, and likely a lot closer than the library. It's at the mall, fast food restaurants, coffee shops, hospitals, apartment complexes, motels, ad infinitum.

I'm not the lowest of the low, but I am the slowest of the slow (49.6 mpg over 38k miles in  Scion xB)
