Title: problems after 4.2.2 update
Post by: bemo0514 on March 02, 2013, 10:51:58 AM
My daughter just updated her Nexus 7 this morning. Now it is randomly rebooting itself. Every time we try to do anything besides play a game, it turns itself off and back on. Any suggestions on what to do?

Do you know if it was low on battery during the update?  What is the current battery status? Try holding all three buttons on the side for 30 seconds, then power it back on.

Do you know if the update was completed? The version should read 4.2.2 now. Is it possible that your daughter installed an app that is running in the background that could be causing issues?

During the update, the battery was at 98%. The version now reads 4.2.2 and I cannot find an app running in the background that was not in use before the update.

Do you have a backup? I really don't know why it would be randomly rebooting and be fine for games. Is it one game or all games? Shot in the dark.. If it is one game, did you try uninstalling it and rebooting?

I would try the hard reboot (hold down all buttons until it turns off) and boot into bootloader (hold both volume buttons while turning on)and then press power again to boot normally when the screen displays start in the upper right.

I thought they tried the hard reboot. Absolutely, that would be the first thing to try.

Okay guys. When I hold down all buttons until it turns off, as soon as I let off the pressure, it turns back on. I turned it off normally and then turned it on while holding the volume buttons then hit the power button again.  It is still turning off, but especially when I try to go to search for something on the internet.

When you say turns off and on do you mean a reboot where you see the Nexus colorful icon in the middle of the screen or the screen just goes black and you have to press the power button for a second to light it back up?
Meaning Is the machine shutting down and rebooting itself .
I really think this is app related somehow. I don't see many instances of this problem conected with the new update

I would say it is rebooting itself. The screen goes black and then it goes through the process of coming back on as if I had powered it off and then turned it back on.

Hate to say it but it might be time to reset the device. Hopefully someone will come along with a solution if you tried everything that was suggested already. A reset will erase your saved data so beware.
