Title: Texting over wifi
Post by: kennedyb4 on March 20, 2013, 04:33:32 PM
Hello. This is my first post. I am new to Android.

I purchased an N7 and I love its speed and convenience but I am having trouble getting texting to work.

I am in Canada and Google Voice is not an option.

I have an Iphone 4 given to me by my daughter but it is not hooked up to a network. I only use it with my wifi and I can text away with no problems.

I would like to do the same with the N7 because the keyboard is so much easier to use. I have looked at tablet talk but there is no iphone version.

Can anyone tell me how I can send a text message over my wifi?

It looks like you have a number of possibilities here,  (https://play.google.com/store/search?q=app+texting+wifi+canada&c=apps)including Talkatone and netTalk, which specifically mention Canadian texting.

As a Canadian, I highly recommend TextPlus Free Text+Calls

We used to use HeyWire, but we found our friends were getting charged long distance or something along those lines.

I do NOT have a cell phone, so Text+ is awesome for me. It gives you a dedicated texting number associated with your account. We haven't been charged a dime.
