Title: Transfer calendar data from phone to nexus 7
Post by: engineer on April 11, 2013, 11:17:05 AM
How can I transfer my calendar data from my android 2.3.4 phone to my Nexus without going through Google?

Both the phone and the Nexus are rooted. Which file do I transfer?

Thanks.

Are you using Googles calendar? So you want to sync but behind Googles back?

No, I am not using Google calendar. I'm trying to create and maintain a local calendar not synced with Google.

1969?
The reason I ask is because what you are trying to do could be app specific. What app do you use for a calendar? It is difficult to help when we don't have any information as to what you are running software/app wise.

@ engineer
You only mention transferring your calendar from your phone to your Nexus 7 and excluding Google, which would be simple to accomplish by temporarily using Google calendar or Yahoo calendar and then removing the calendar merge. But that no longer
allows synchronization. If you want synchronization between the calendars on multiple devices, you are opening, a different can of worms.

Problem solved - partially.

I'm trying to not go through Google, even temporarily, because once data gets on Google servers it's probably remains there in some form even if deleted. The obvious solution is to use export/import functions. But my phone and nexus calendar apps did not have compatible export file formats.

So, I now use the same app (Business Calendar). I was able to export from BC on the phone and import the ics file on the nexus.

Remaining 2 problems I need to solve:
On the nexus (Android 4.2.2) I was able to use BC to create a "local" calendar that is totally unconnected to Google. On the phone (Android 2.3.4) the same BC will not create a similar local calendar. I'm guessing that this may therefore be a limitation of Android 2.3.4. Is it?
So on the phone I'm using a calendar that is potentially syncable to my Google account. Even though I marked it to NOT sync I am afraid that it might accidentally (during an update or error by me) send my data to Google. If it were a local calendar like on the nexus that would not happen.

Second problem is how to keep the 2 android calendars and my pc synced without going through Google or the cloud. I can easily transfer files from one to the other (by email, usb, etc) but that is not true syncing. I'm working with "MyPhoneExplorer" which looks promising.

I'm trying to work these out. Any ideas would be welcome.

Bjs, your answer was marked as having been made on 31/12/1969 when I was reading it in Tapatalk. Now that date corrected itself. Don't know what happened and thought that maybe your computer date was off but it seems to have just been a temporary quirk.
