I just got my Nexus 7 today and I'm still feeling it out. When I watch video with the screen horizontal, after a minute or two it locks as if I've pressed the power button - but I haven't. When I try to enter my password to unlock the screen, it will no unlock, no matter how many times I've entered the password. I have to hold down the power button for 10 seconds to reset before it will accept my password and unlock the screen.
Is my device defective? I called tech support and the had me do a reboot. This has not resolved the issue.
Any help would be appreciated.

What is the source of the video? File? Streaming? From what website? What app are you using to read it with?
I'm not the lowest of the low, but I am the slowest of the slow (49.5 mpg over 42k miles in Scion xB)

So it is going to sleep while the video is running? Does it happen in the other viewing mode as well? What do you have your screen awake setting at? Like Bird asked.. What app? I have had that happen with a game Dragons Lair. It sucked, I had to remedy it by touching the screen to reset the action from happening.

I'm using The Daily Show app, and if I keep touching the screen one a minute it won't last ck up. But it also locks when I play games that require a horizontal screen, like The Simpsons Tapped Out.

It sounds like the app has bugs. Seems from the reviews there are a lot of problems.
I use either BSplayer or MXplayer for my video streaming.

Or it could be a software bug or a rogue application causing this to happen because it shouldn't happen.
I don't currently have Tapped Out on my N7 but I did and this didn't happen...

If a factory reset didn't help, it's probably not software. I'd exchange it if possible. It's not just sleeping, it's freezing if you have to reboot each time. My guess is that a component (gpu?) is overheating, turn down the brightness and see if that helps.

Matt, where does the OP state he/she has preformed a factory data reset??
In the OP they state they've held the power button for 10 seconds to reset but that's not a factory data reset?
It could still be a faulty device but it could be still be an app or software too... If it is faulty then you should return the device to your point of sale.

The Daily Show app review looks pretty atrocious.

You're right, Jay. I was assuming the reboot suggested by tech support was a factory reset. Which is what I'd try first.

No worries Matt, factory data reset would be mine too...
