Title: Battery Drain While Charging
Post by: bjs229 on May 04, 2013, 06:42:13 PM
I have noticed lately that while my Nexus is plugged into the wall and I am using it, the battery doesn't charge much. It either drains or stays basically level like using a clutch on a hill. I am using the original plug but a different USB cord(s) than original. I didn't think that could be an issue but now I am not so sure. I keep my light on the lowest level possible. Its really annoying because if the cord disconnects while using it, I get the low battery warning. Maybe it is just aging..(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/05/05/yze8eteb.jpg)

Yeh, mine does the same, a maintenance charge or slight drain, while in use. It does it with the pogo dock, too. Seems like the charging circuit won't accept the full 2 amps unless the tablet is asleep. Maybe an update fix someday. Not designed for 24/7 usage, I guess. Get a spare and switch back and forth?

Good point. I wonder if this is something that is update related. I am thinking of trying a new ROM and seeing what happens.

I'm thinking it's a kernel problem, I remember a otg+charge rom that allows charging while using a usb device. Search xda.

It could be the USB cable your using isn't designed for a 2a supply, USB cables have different resistance so change the cable and see if that helps...

I agree with JayJ on this one, all USB cables are not created equally.

Jayj. That has got to be it! I didn't know that the cables had to be designed for 2amp.  The one that came with mine is fried. Going to have to buy a new one.

I've been using the stock nexus otg cord, I bought a 6 ft. otg that was poor- gave phantom key presses and screen flicker. I'll try another. Not sure otg is needed for the charger anyway.

From further research, the charging circuit seems independent of the kernel, but some program(s) may be using too much juice, slowing charge rate.

I don't think I have ever seen an OTG cord that is more than a couple inches long.
