Title: Firefox and Flash
Post by: krosnafone on June 17, 2013, 09:52:19 PM
Flash is installed and working on many sites.
But Firefox (2.0) won't play those videos from Yahoo (constant load symbol) or Hulu (blank, black window) - and likely others as well.
Chrome plays them.

Acts as if there's a Flash blocker on line, but that's not the case.

Tested both in normal and "request desktop" modes.

Where have we gone wrong?

Do you have Adobe Flash installed on your Nexus? Without it most browsers won't play flash.

Adobe no longer supports flash for Android and Chrome uses HTML5.

Yes, the recommended older Adobe Flash is installed.

One forum post indicated that FF won't render Flash on an Android system using a Tetra 2 processor.
This is Tetra 3.  Perhaps that's the problem??

What version if Flash? Go to...

Settings> Apps> Adobe Flash Player and check the version number...

I have no problems using Flash on my Nexus 7 with xScope Pro, it occasionally crashes by otherwise works fine.

What's FF?

FF is the Firefox browser.  As mentioned earlier, Flash works with Chrome.

Version 11.1 is installed.

Flash does not work with Chrome, Chrome uses HTML5 which is replacing Flash...
I have Flash working in FF, have you set the plugins option to Enabled?

What's the full version number? Mine is 11.1.115.58, which I think is the most up to date...

Thanks, Jayj! The flash settings in the app drawer seem to be disabled, probably because adobe has stopped support.

The "latest" Flash version is not appropriate for Android as Adobe no longer supports that technology on mobile devices.

I have uninstalled Flash - not worth the hassle.  Whatever technology CHROME is using, it renders Yahoo videos.   Thanks.

That's rubbish, Adobe has never supported Jelly Bean so all versions of Flash are for ICS and previous versions of Android.
I'm running the latest version of Flash and it's working fine so tell me how the "latest" version is not appropriate for Android??

And your welcome Matt!

and several other sites explain where Flash mobile development stands - especially with respect to the Firefox 4.x browser.

My apologies, I took your statement that up to date Flash wasn't appropriate for Android 4.1.x and above as a whole but you where in fact referring to Firefox .
I'm sure the developers behind FF know what they're talking about, after all they developed it and have tested it but I'm using 11.1.115.63 which is the most up to date version of Flash and it's working fine on my Nexus 7 alongside Firefox from the Play store.

Not appropriate? You are missing one of the beautiful things about Android. With a little bit of effort, We can still use it if we want to. Try that on a fruity device.
Ah I was under the same assumption.. My bad.

But not in Firefox - at least not here.  FF and Flash are not now sympatico, so the links say, but Flash does apparently work in other browsers.
That Tetra issue may be another factor;  it has been stated that Flash won't work on Tetra 2.  If that's so, perhaps it applies to Tetra 3 as well.
