Title: JB 4.3
Post by: CBers on July 25, 2013, 04:39:17 PM
Anyone tried flashing their Nexus 7 (or 4 or 10) with JB 4.3 yet?

Images are already available, but it doesn't seem to be as straight forward as before.

Yes I tried installing the update in zip file format from CWM recovery and received "Assert Fails:apply_patch_check, ("/system/vendor/lib/hw/power.grouper.so") showing Status 7. This indicates a kernel that is "not stock", so I restored the stock kernel and tried the zip update again and had the same results. My next attempt was a sideload of the zip update file and I had the same error. I am looking at the stock rom 4.3 on xda Here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2376881), but I am curious as to whether the OTA will give the same error, so until I receive feedback that the OTA fails for the same reason, I will wait a day or two before trying the xda 4.3 stock rom. Be advised, that the App Store version of SU has issues with 4.3, so make sure you read xda 4.3 stock rom post if you fail to access SU after applying the update with CWM.

This is the method that I used, trying option 1 and 2. I would be interested in hearing, if anyone achieves success.

Chainfire has released an updated SuperSU overnight.

Think I'll wait a few days before trying to update.

Yes unfreeze any apps that came pre-installed on your Nexus 7 and then install Voodoo OTA RootKeeper and run it to protect Root (just to be safe) and if you have CWM recovery, answer "NO" when asked on startup after the update, "do you want to replace your current recovery?" Answering yes will replace CWM with the stock recovery.

Install Rom Manager free from the Play Store and use it to boot recovery and if it fails reinstall recovery with one of the toolkits.

Looks like there was a new release of the SDK toolset that needs to be installed.

Root is broken on 4.3 even with Chainfires updated SuperSU zip.
Anybody that flashes the OTA will need to re-root, Voodoo OTA RootKeeper does not work because of the security changes Google have made to Android in 4.3.

I've updated my Nexus 4 but not my Nexus 7.

OTA updated OK but SuperSU needs to be re-flashed.

Gonna try it now.

Can't get my Nexus 10 into recovery mode (TWRP).

It boots and reboots just fine, but if I try manual recovery mode (power+volume down) it sits saying "Downloading - do not turn off target".

Will try again tomorrow via ADB sideload.

I can't get into TWRP so gonna try installing it via ADB, as GooManager can't do it as SUPERSU isn't available.

Unless there's another way.

Just did my Nexus 10 using WugFresh toolkit (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766475).

Manually downloaded TWRP (v2.6.0.0) & SuperSU v1.43 zip.

Changed Recovery Image to v2.6.0.0.

Installed TWRP via toolkit (ROOT button) then flashed SuperSU zip when TWRP started up.

All rooted again  8)

Hmm, I see the OTA waiting but how 'complicated' is it to re-root CBers?  I'm holding off on the update 'til I know the procedure to get back to my unlocked, rooted device... 'course I'll have my new Gen 2, 32GB by Friday so I'll prolly want to just put this one back to stock.

@radiocycle - it's very easy.

As I said above, I used Wug's toolkit to do it.

I just downloaded the latest TWRP and SuperSU.

Then started the toolkit and pointed it at the downloaded TWRP, then hit the ROOT button.

It copies and installs TWRP.

Once done, it boots into TWRP, where I flashed SuperSU.

I have had issues installing latest SuperSU from GP.

I've had to reflash via TWRP each time.

I copied the SuperSU zip to the tablet before re-rooting.

Radio, here's the procedure I followed to manually root my N7 (http://wccftech.com/how-to-root-nexus-7-android-4-3-jwr66v-jb-and-install-cwm/) after upgrading to 4.3.

What's the difference between JWR66V and JWR66Y? I received the first update on my 16gb and the other just 2 days ago on my 32gb model. Both updated to JWR66V back in the beginning of the month.

It's simply security bugfixes... All Nexus devices have or will receive this update including the Nexus 4, Nexus 10, Gnex and both versions of the Nexus 7.
