If you're gonna go with a screen protector you might as well go with the best. Sure you can buy some cheap no-name brands on Ebay but the gold standard of screen protectors has always been ZAGG's 'Invisible Shield' line. The company has sold over 30 million protectors worldwide, it's made of military grade material that reduces smudges, smears and glare, and has a lifetime replacement warrant for the life of your device. In other words...buy it once and you'll never have to buy it again. Many people swear by these and you can get them either for just the screen for $19.99 or the screen and back of the unit for $29.99. Personally we went for the screen protection since we like to make sure our tablet stays nice and 'perfect' and we really like the slight tactile feel the cover gives the tablet.

Now we know there's an ongoing debate between two firmly entrenched groups; Should you or should you not invest in a screen protector for your Nexus 7 tablet? On one side are those that feel the special Corning 'Fit' Glass is scratch resistant and made to withstand day to day use without chipping, cracking or scratching so why bother? On the other side are those that say while that's all fine and great...it's not scratch 'proof'...just 'resistant'... and accidents can and will happen. Using a screen protector gives you an added measure of security to ensure that your screen stays in perfect shape while having the added benefit of cutting down on some of the glare and fingerprinting of your tablet's glossy screen. I dunno if this is what you're talking about but the "ArmorSuit" being sold on Amazon gets a few crummy reviews, all because it seems to significantly reduce the responsiveness of the touch screen. Too thick maybe??

Wow really? good thing I didnt buy it yet. usually Armor suite gets good reviews.

Maybe ill wait to see if they improve.

But there is no way in hell im paying 30 bucks for a screen protector, especially when my nexus is already in a case anyway.

Can't wait until I get it on my Nexus 7. What sold me was when I saw it on an iPhone 4s, it was super clear, but very strong protection for the screen.

It looks like these are under $12 shipped to the door now. I am trying to decide if I need it, though. I do have an OtterBox on order for my Nexus 7.

Post by: engineer on April 16, 2013, 02:40:15 PM: I'm also trying to make my mind about whether to get a screen protector or not. What bothers me about my unprotected screen is the fingerprint smudges it constantly is acquiring even though I try to use a stylus when it's nearby.

Will this screen protector eliminate the smudging or just "reduce" them?

It's a bit thicker than some other screen protectors and has a very slight texture to it that while nearly invisible does help avoid fingerprints so this might be right up your alley.

I don't think that anyone can argue that ZAGG isn't the best, but do you really need it for the N7? I think it depends on how you use your tablet. If you're like me, my machine is usually in my bag or in my hand while I'm in my easy chair. ZAGG is overkill.

On the other hand, I would never use less than a ZAGG on my pocket computer. It's in my hand when I'm walking. In my shirt pocket most of the day (except sometimes when I bend over). I want a lot of protection on my main mobile device.

Like so many other things, everyone needs to get what is best for them.

I hate that "tactile feel" which is just code for sticky. Its glass for a reason, your finger needs to glide. And I hate how the corners always end up raising up and how if one spec of dust gets under it while I install them its the and of the world for me.

I guess that's why I've always liked the gum drop and otter box type cases with the built in screen protectors. I can take them and clean them with ease.
