Hi guys-
Well, we've got to start talking about the GPS failure on the second gen Nexus 7.
My GPS function goes dead after 2 minutes of operation- after a re-start.
I returned one Nexus 7 II - and this second one does the exact same thing.
Being it seems that about half the users report that theirs is working...since all units
are on the same Firmware and OS revision, it sort of has to be a hardware problem.
I'm going to return this one for a refund, as I believe that Google will re-call these from the
dealers and re-do the hardware. One doesn't want to get stuck with a dead GPS...or a GPS dongle
provided by Asus- as was done on a previous unit of theirs with a dead GPS chip.
If you have a N7 II that has a good GPS function, please write to tell us what your particulars are...
place of purchase...etc. If you've found a work-around... help!

I read somewhere that Best Buy was extending the 15 day return to 30 days because of this problem .
Can anybody confirm this ?

In the front page article about this issue I mentioned that apparently Google is working on a patch/fix that should be released pretty quickly I should think. I'm still not convinced that it's a hardware issue. There could be a conflict with a certain app or apps that is causing it, which would explain why some owners on the same version of the OS could have problems while others don't. But I guess they'll get to the bottom of it and we'll find out. Either way, I'm sure Google would make good on any warranty issue.

I'm not ruling out software, and an update to correct this soon. There has been some discussion about competing apps accessing gps and locking it up. Multiple threads on xda.

Exactly my thoughts. Typically if a hardware item truly is dead or at fault, it doesn't work at all. the fact that the GPS seems to lock for a period of time...and then cuts out...and then it reconnects after a restart...makes me think there's some kind of conflict that's kicking in at some point.

Follow-UP to my first post on this topic...
20 minutes after I started this thread, I got another 4.3 update request.
I let it do it's thing....and then started GPS Test...and it is sitting there locked onto the sats
without a problem...for 30+ minutes so far. Only this one App running....
This could have been the fix coming through from Google....
Sure hope so.....!
