Hello
I need to put some films on my nexus but I'm not sure how, seeing as there's no USB port.
I have a portable HD with loads of films and I want to stick a few on there if I can.

The cord you charge with is usb to micro usb. You may need nexus media importer or if rooted, stickmount. What is the hd format: ntfs, fat32, fat16, exfat? You can also try plugging the n7 into a computer and drag-drop the movies from file manager. Next question, what is the best player to view movies with.

Is your N7 rooted ?
You can use Nexus Media Importer (from Google Play)to watch your movie
Requires the following hardware:
1. An USB OTG (On-The-Go) cable.
3. An USB Flash Drive or SD Card (with your movie in it)
You also need to install some movie player software such as BSPlayer to play the movie
I am not sure there is enough power to use your portable hard drive to watch the movie
If your N7 is rooted, you can install Stickmount instead of Nexus Media Player

Excuse my ignorance, what do you mean by rooted?

Rooted means that you have read and write privilege to the root directory, allowing you to modify the operating system. Once rooted you can allow other programs that access so they can give you greater functionality. However, you may need to revert to unrooted to update over-the-air.
