Title: Would you use a case with integrated OTG USB Port?
Post by: micahnelson on October 20, 2013, 08:54:05 AM
We are building a Nexus case with an integrated USB port to use with Nexus Media Importer. This will allow you to use flash media without rooting your phone, and without dangling dongles. Before we finalized details, we wanted some feedback.

1) Do you use OTG?
2) Would you use a case with an integrated USB flash media port?
3) What Nexus are you running?

If one or two of you wouldn't mind, we need a quick Skype discussion to talk about the project. We would LOVE your feedback.

I occasionally use OTG cable with Nexus Media Importer to view photos, vids.

OK to build this into case only if case meets my needs (slim, attractive, etc).  Currently using Poetic case with my Nexus 7 (2913).  Perfect for my needs.

Ideal OTG connection would be non-cable integrated unit that accepts  USB + SDHC

Rooted and use OTG for large file transfer from a USB device with StickMount Pro and Poetic slim style case. Giving me OTG without adding bulk would be a feature that would interest me.

I use OTG cable on occasion with my Nexus7 2013.
As to cases no matter what features they have I judge them all against the official Amazon case fore the Kindle Paper White.

Depends on the case. I usually rock my Nexus naked. Most cases I have tried take away from sound, feel, look etc..OTG is a cool added feature. I could see where it would be attractive to some folks.

1) Yes

2) Maybe.  It would depend on cost and other features.  I like a case that folds back into a stand and has a magnetic closure to shut down the machine.

3) The original, but I'm saving my nickels and dimes.

1. Yes, I have a rooted Nexus and use Stickmount Pro.

2. Honestly, No. I only use USB storage to transfers movies to my device. I have three USB flash drives and one would only be connected long enough to transfer those files.

3. Both the 2012 & 2013, probably not relevant now I've said this would be of no use to me.

On a side note I do think this is a nice idea and would probably be useful for other, just the way I use my devices it wouldn't for me.
