Title: What do I use for security (AntiVirus, etc) such as Apps?
Post by: markw10 on October 21, 2013, 03:55:00 PM
I'm new to Android and just purchased a 2013 Nexus 7.  What do I need to do for security on it?  I've heard about the Lookout Security and AntiVirus app.  Is this something I should get or should I look into some other options for security such as AntiVirus, Malware protection, etc.  Thanks!

I have Avast installed although I don't really think it is really necessary as I don't keep any personal data on my N7.  I download only from Google Play and don't install "new" apps.  My theory is that after an app has 10,000 or so downloads, anything evil about it will have been discussed on the tech blogs.

Just my opinion, and you know what people say about opinions.

Don't think of Android like you do Windows, Android does need Antivirus software. YOU are your first defence against Android Malware, check permissions when installing applications, don't install applications that have a low install count and only install from the Play store. Following these simple steps should keep you safe from most Android Malware.
