I've enjoyed my Nexus 7 for 6 months. It just updated to 4.4. It doesn't do it every night, but I lose all of my battery overnight in the sleep mode. Never had this problem before, actually had great battery life before update. Any suggestions or comments.

Wake lock detector to find the app responsible, app ops to disable the permission at fault.

Wakelock is not compatible with kitkat 4.4
-
Didn't notice. App ops swipe right to system, see the running wakelocks.
I disabled currents sync, and set WiFi off when sleeping in settings.

Looks like Google play services was keeping a constant wake lock on mine. Disabled keep awake and the battery graph now shows breaks in the awake line.

OK, THANKS. I have heard google play services may be causing my problems. I disabled it, so we'll see how it goes. I was fine until 4.4 update.

If you disable it completely, utube and other apps may not run. With app ops you can turn off individual permissions. It works on unrooted (mine), but there are more functions with root. I disabled just the keep awake while leaving it active.

Strange, but my 2012 has no problem, the fix was for my 2013.

A/b the 2 tablets, the 2012 with no problems, in settings/location. Mode is battery saving and Google location reporting off. Will reenable wake lock on 2013 and match settings.

Looks like I'm losing 8% per hour since my 4.4 update. The OS system seems to be the culprit. I've tried all the battery saving suggestions. Any easy way to go back to 4.2?
-
Easy? You could get a toolkit on the computer, like wugfresh nrt. It will guide you with the drivers you need. Then you can flash an earlier factory image. You'll need to unlock first, etc. and lose user data.
Have you tried settings/accounts/Google/your gmail address. From there you can disable all the syncs you don't need, helping the tab to sleep.

Rumors of 4.4.1 coming. Battery drain and other issues.

I'm going to keep 4.4 for now and wait on 4.4.1. I've shut down all the battery drain programs and the battery drain has improved enough to be tolerable for now. Thanks for all the suggestions and I hope it helps with other 4.4 users that are having similar problems. Happy Holidays.

Back atcha. I've disabled location, I guess if I was in a mall all the stores could bombard me with ads. But that's what Google glass is for.

Matt do you have a Glass? Wow. I wish I could afford one.
I can't really complain about battery drain. I haven't measured but don't notice any crazy drop since the update.

Only regular glasses. I'm seeing abnormal battery drain on the 2013. When I turn off the screen it is now sleeping and the WiFi turning off. But something is turning it back on periodically to sync. Nearly there.

If you haven't gotten the 4.4.1 update yet, then you'll probably get the 4.4.2 update instead.

The Nexus 7 2012 will not get 4.4.1, you will go directly from 4.4 to 4.4.2.

My 2012 Nexus 7 updated to 4.4.2. Battery life is better, and only lose about 20% idle overnight (was completely draining overnight). Still not as good as it was before the updates but have to live with it I guess.

Got updated to 4.4.2. After a shaky start it seems to be back to holding the battery charge like it used to. 2 nights in a row with no battery drain overnight. Hope it continues.
