How does one change File Associations in Android 4.4.2 on Nexus 7 (2012) not rooted? Is there an app?
I can't find the dialog where I did this before KitKat.
Thanks,
RONC

Settings/apps, upper right 3 dot menu. Resets preferences globally. To reset an individual preference, there's a check box in each app in settings.

In Android 4.4.2 the global preference reset is available but their is no checkbox for the individual apps unless it is the Show notifications one.

I have that, greyed out, but it doesn't give me a way to associate DNG.

Unfamiliar with digital negative (dng) apps, try a few photo editors and see if it will open, alternatively, click on the file in a file explorer and see if the chooser menu appears.
The methods above are to release an association, not create one.

Chooser app dialog does not appear when I select a DNG file in file managers. Back in Android 4.1(??) I think I could define DNG and what to do as far as associations. Seems that Google must have derailed that at some time. DNG is like other camera raw (NEF, PEF, CR2...) files but is a standard that Adobe is pushing. A number of cameras use as standard now.

You may need to install an app that can handle that format. Searched dng on Google play and many photo apps appear.

It may be that the KitKat photo editor doesn't support that raw format.

Seems there are also apps for default setting.

Simply installing an app that will read dng files may change the default and bring up the chooser menu.

This did the trick.
