Title: Converting from 1st gen to 2nd gen
Post by: chaikenj on March 30, 2014, 10:46:27 AM
I am about to buy a 2013 Nexus 7.  My 2012 8Gb Nexus 7 is still working.  Can I get all my apps onto the 2nd gen N7 just by using some built-in Restore function?  Or, do I need to buy and download each app again on the 2nd gen N7?
What if I backup my apps using another backup and restore app beforehand?  Is there an app that will then let me put the apps on my 2nd gen N7?   If I do restore the apps to my 2nd gen N7, are the same apps still live on my 1st gen N7?

Once you purchase an app it is available for all your android devices on your email account. Goto the play store, hit the menu upper left, select my apps then all. The exception is in-app purchases, which don't transfer. Any game or app data would need backup and restore unless you don't mind starting over.

There are exceptions to the exception.  Some apps do let you transfer in-app purchases.  Check before you buy.
