Title: Asus Nexus 7 will not start - Tried everything i can think of
Post by: Wangi on June 07, 2014, 02:20:15 AM
Ok, so here is what happened - Son plugs his Nexus in to charge and all is fine. Goes back an hour later and the device is dead. It will not start. So i press the volume down button along with the power button and it goes into the boot loader menu. all looks fine so i select shut device down. When it shuts down, i restart it. Nothing. it will not start. so i press the volume down and the power button again and a battery icon is displayed for about two seconds. then nothing. try again. battery icon appears and disappears again but will not go into boot loader menu. Now there is nothing. not even the battery icon. No matter what i do. I tried different chargers and left plugged in for hours on end. connected it to the pc via usb. that does not get any power to it and the pc does even not know its plugged so cannot do anything that way.

I got a new battery... Exactly the same.. Nothing.. the new battery does have power but the nexus is still dead. i'm convinced it is not a hardware problem as it did go into the boot loader menu the first time and a battery appeared a few times.. the battery connector is fitted ok and nothing is loose.  Its 14 months old so the warranty is out.. does anyone have any other ideas on what could be the problem could be and what i could try?

Another question though. there is a hidden button inside the case just below the volume marked reset. does anyone know what this button is for. As far as I'm aware, there is no power to the device when the back of the case is off so cant see any reason for it.

Any help would be really appreciated. my son is not only distraught, but his faith in his fathers ability to fix anything is also wavering

When mine was unresponsive, I got it to turn on by holding the power button down for about a minute. There is a thread by bjs somewhere here about plugging in the charger while holding power.

I have heard of some success with this method. Start with the Nexus plugged into the charger. Then hold down the power button for one minute, then while continuing to press the power button, disconnect the charger, wait 30 seconds, do not release the power button and plug back in the charger. Wait one minute with the power button pressed and see if the Nexus powers up.

Thank you Matt & S.Prime for your help. Unfortunately nothing seems to work. It just will not respond... I think it may be heading for the bin  :o

How much voltage does the battery read? If it drops below a set point the tablet won't boot or charge. The last answer is to get enough charge to start charging, if that makes sense.

Strange, tapatalk isn't showing unread messages correctly, accidentally saw the op had replied!

You mentioned trying other chargers, did you try other cables?

Sounds like my Nexus 7 when it went into APX mode. Check what device your PC is seeing. The fix for APX mode is a motherboard replacement.

Just to chime in that I'm at the same frustrating place: no response to anything, having gone so far as unplugging the
battery and holding down power for a static reset.  In my case I witnessed the death of the Nexus 7 (2012).
The thing was fully charged, and I booted up from power down.  It was oddly sluggish (in retrospect, perhaps
it was occupying itself updating apps after a day offline) and I decided to reboot.  It came back up to the place
where 4 colored circles dance around each other, and never left that place.  After several minutes of colored
circles, I decided to power it down again, and it has been a nonresponsive paperweight ever since.

Didn't we lose part of this topic, or am I mistaken?

I try not to delete my posts Mr. Taken, even when they are idiotic.
